About to start counselling

Hi all! My little girl has recently turned one and I started back to work recently but unfortunately had to be sent out sick due to having a break down this year has been a lot and I feel really traumatised by my mil behaviour it’s completely ruined my experience as a first time mum🥲 has anyone else ever had to seek therapy because of their mil? I’m feeling nervous because I’m scared incase the counsellor thinks it’s a stupid reason for seeing them

I'm on the cusp of seeking therapy regarding my in-laws. Today/this past week has been the final straw for me with them all. Here if you'd like to vent

My son is 3 months old and I have been in therapy because of my mother-in-law since he was 8 weeks old They also put me on Zoloft for anxiety

Do it!! The counsellor will be kind and not think it’s a stupid reason (if they do = wrong counsellor). You are likely to uncover other things besides the MIL, maybe about your past too. Things that trigger you in the MiL etc. this is a good thing! Keep digging and you will feel so much better

Don’t feel nervous, counsellors are trained to help people and to listen to what is bothering them. I imagine it could be super helpful ❤️

I didn’t start because of MIL but we started discussing it and things became better so it’s not unheard of they know how to do their job so don’t feel ashamed and you don’t have to stick with the first person you find. It helped me to find someone that I liked their style of approaching certain topics I didn’t care for my first therapist not that she was bad I just didn’t click
