Hungry or not hungry?

Hello, just looking for advice. My little bundle is 4 weeks today born via c section at 38weeks, breastfeeding is going okay, he had a tongue tie, which was corrected. Due to tongue tie he wasn't feeding effectively and was loosing weight/ maintaining weight, so we were told to do formula or breast milk top up. Recently he has been feeding in the breast better I can see more swallows, but after 1:30 mins feeding on each breast he still seems hungry so then we top up 60mls formula (I don't always have enough expressed) then once finishing that he still seems hungry, so I put I'm back on the breast and then feeds end up lasting 3 hours in total. My partner wants to just keep feeding him formula till he throws up as he seems hungry, my question is, is that okay? Not sure what to do as I don't want to over feed him or if we will end up stretching his tummy. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi lovely, it sounds like he’s cluster feeding to try and up your supply. It’s completely normal but understand it’s quite a lot! He could also be wanting to suckle for comfort, again completely normal Please don’t feed him formula until he’s sick, when he builds your supply up a bit more it’ll ease off xx

Sounds like cluster feeding. If you can cope with it I'd just keep letting him go on the boob 😅 it will help him get better with his technique and it will help your supply. He could also be suckling for comfort rather than hunger (which is totally fine!)

What makes you think he's still hungry after the breastfeed? Babies can't be overfed. Once they are full they'll refuse to take anymore.

@Natalie not strictly true. You can overfeed a formula fed baby x
