Hospital Bag - what do I actually need?

Hi all, first time mum here, due on June 1st and crawling through the final trimester 🫠 I feel very underprepared and have been struggling to figure out what it is I actually need and the best way to prepare for both labour and then having a tiny human to keep alive after! Any tips and advice much appreciated! Hope you’re all doing ok x

Very useful question! Also following (due date 27.06) so not far behind you :-)

I found the NHS list helpful for what to pack: https://www.nhs.uk/start-for-life/pregnancy/preparing-for-labour-and-birth/hospital-bag-checklist/ I started with baby's bag first, then thought about what I would need postpartum. This will depend on what kind of birth you're planning, whether you want to breast feed or not etc.

F as I have a due date of 30/6. So many lists out there.

I’m having my second baby and packing a couple of outfits for baby (vest, babygrow, mitts, hat and cardigan x2), a shawl, some nappies and wipes but the hosp will provide nappies etc. For myself, a nightie and dressing gown, flip flops, an outfit change and some toiletries as well as some cereal bars, isotonic drinks, a long charging cable and a fan. Hosp provide maternity pads etc. xx

@Aimee sorry to jump on i’m due the same day!! xx

Things I’ve packed for Baby: newborn and first size vests, full baby grows, hats, mitts, socks, going home outfit, size 0 & 1 nappies, sudocreme, cotton wool, nappy rash cream, a bottle, some pre-made bottles of formula, a cellular blanket, a cuddly toy, a name announcement plaque if you have one. Things I’ve packed for me: PJs x 2, slippers, flip flops, knickers, socks, maternity bras, several changes of clothes (a dress, leggings and tops), a towel, toiletries including facemask, shampoo, conditioner, bag of snacks (healthy and sugary), portable fan, breast milk storage bags, colostrum syringes, nipple cream, disposable knickers, loads of sanitary / maternity towels, long cable charger, maternity notes, a bag of stuff for my husband including boxers, t shirt, toiletries and snacks for him, hair brush, breast pads, eye mask, ear plugs.

I’ve heard to take at least 3 of everything for baby ie bodysuits x3 and if your in longer than expected or run out you can get someone to go home and bring more but I heard 3 is more than enough because your only in the hospital for 24hrs if everything goes well.

In labour lips get super dry - take a lip balm

Thanks everyone. These are all really helpful! I’m getting through a list slowly, it’s so mad preparing for… like packing for a holiday but the complete opposite 😅
