Rowe Casa Organics has a swim spray. Our pediatrician was shocked our son’s skin wasn’t flaring up when he started swim lessons. We spray it on prior and always rinse after.
We lather my little ones skin with his normal moisturiser before dressing him in a full swim suit, then afterwards rinse with Dermol 600 Bath Emollient. No flare ups so far thankfully 🫶🏻
Weirdly the chlorine seems to help our boys eczema?!
Asked heal baby care app and sharing in case it helps: "It's great to hear that you've managed to get your son's eczema under control! To help prevent flare-ups while swimming, consider using a barrier cream or lotion specifically designed for eczema before he gets in the water. These products can help protect the skin from chlorine. Chlorine neutralizing sprays can also be beneficial as they help remove chlorine from the skin after swimming, but they should be used in conjunction with a good moisturizer. Make sure to apply a thick layer of moisturizer immediately after swimming to lock in moisture. Have you already identified any specific triggers for your son's eczema that we should consider while swimming?"
@Heaven do you own this app, ? I keep seeing you promote it, people are well able to google themselves, they are asking for real life experiences
@Fay it’s because the chlorine kills bacteria on the skin that contribute to itchiness and inflammation- so for some people it does help! For others it causes more irritation tho, so it can go either way
@Emelie that’s so interesting thank you! Our baby’s eczema was initially from allergies but now just flares when he is sick (virus, cold etc) so I just find it weird his body is reacting from internal problems but soothed externally from chlorine x
Very interesting! Thanks everyone. I asked our paediatric dermatologist and he said I don’t need anything by extra but I overthink things and rather have something incase I need it. We’ve recently noticed that citric fruits set off his eczema and we know that before a flare up he starts with a little patch in his hair 🙄 so that patch is constantly being monitored. I never thought of barrier creams before going into the pool but not sure it’ll be a waste because we need to shower before getting into the pool?
My son has severe eczema and chlorine pools and ocean havent caused any flare ups. If he is in a flare and is going swimming we used to lather him up in aquaphor and that seemed to be a good barrier for him.
@Fay the confusing headache that is eczema 😵💫 Some people swear by bleach or vinegar baths for the same reason to kill the staph bacteria on the skin - I’ve been too scared to try it tho!
@Emelie yes I’ve also heard that but not tried it! You are completely right, eczema is an absolute mind boggle, just when you think you’ve cracked it something new comes along 🤦🏻♀️
ACV to his bath water worked well on my little one's skin.
@Temmy. Do you need to rinse again after ACV bath?x
No I leave it on him. I bath him with normal water then after that I add ACV to a bowl of water and pour on him from his neck to feet and pour extra to his thighs and legs cause it was all filled eczema. It all cleared up to the point I was in doubt. We use balmond skin salvation after bath. The only cause of his flare up now is if he is exposed to egg or diary food.
I just put my cream on prior, the one I use at other times
