I agree with trying a different temperature, my son doesn't like warm milk, he only drinks it cold, right or off the fridge. And at first he didn't like the taste of whole milk since breastmilk is sweeter, so my parents told me I should add a few drops of vanilla extract or something similar to make it a little sweeter.
Following.
@Lindsey would the ratio breast milk work with expired pumped milk? I haven't pumped in over a year and all I have is from nov/dec 2023 😳. I'm ready to start weaning!
The transition to regular milk can be difficult. I’m a toddler teacher, I’ve had a few kiddos that needed help getting used to milk by adding it to water and upping the milk to water ratio over time until they got used to it. I’ve also heard of people adding food coloring or edible glitter/luster dust to make a “potion”. Have your little one mix it or shake it up. Should be a good time.
When I transition to whole milk, I started mixing my breastmilk with whole milk. Like 6oz breast 2 oz whole, then a few days later do 4oz and 4oz and then a few days 2oz and 6oz the fully switch to whole. Or whatever oz you give your kid- mine was just on 8oz bottles) Transitioning it like this really helped her not notice. It took about two-three weeks to transition fully to whole milk.
Goat milk is the closest to breastmilk just dilute it that’s the only milk my son would take
@Ashley that would definitely make them sick breastmilks only good for 6 months lol 15 months is a little too old
Just wanted to add that they don’t NEED milk. Especially if they’re getting other dairy in their diet. In fact, too much dairy can lead to anemia. My son has low iron and eats a lot of cheese and yogurt. So all he ever drinks is water. We started him on drinking water when he was 6mo with meals and by the time he weaned at 13 months, it was no biggie.
@Anna definitely agree my son hasn’t had a bottle since he was 14 months let alone milk he refuses it. He loves greek yogurt and mozzarella cheese
Do you have any breastmilk stored? You can try to do 4 parts breastmilk to 1 part milk for a few days then slowly start changing the ratio to more and more milk until eventually it’s no breastmilk. This can help introduce it. You can also try different temperatures. We kept doing warm cows milk since breastmilk is warm, but he only started drinking it when we gave it to him ice cold 🤷🏻♀️
