I did but purely under the guidance of my babies doctor for my first. My second, BD pressured me into attempting to start with him but he was no where near as ready so I stopped and started again when he was 6m. What’s right for one baby isn’t necessarily right for another and it really does come down to if they’re able/ready to and why.
thankyou so much for the responses! makes sense i wait until she’s 6 months😂or even after x
No definitely not - unless explicitly told by a doctor for medical reasons (reflux, not gaining weight, allergies, etc) then don’t introduce any food (solids or purées or porridges or rices), nothing but milk until over 6 months. Baby digestive systems are not mature enough until then and even then it’s slow and steady not introducing things too quickly etc. it’s proven introducing foods too early can disrupt digestive systems and cause stomach problems in adult life - just wait there’s no rush . Wrote all this for anyone else reading it - I saw you said you’d wait but for anyone else thinking just please wait unless told by a doctor to start a bit sooner x
The NHS guidance is 6 months, but that is really just a general guide. When we went for my baby’s 8 week check with the HV, she told me that they run workshops for parents of babies who are ready to wean before 6 months so that they have the right support. Maybe speak to a HV for advice if you think your daughter might be ready. The NHS has a checklist; even if a baby is 6 months, they may not be 100% ready to wean if they don’t have the right skills. 1. Can your baby stay in a sitting position, holding their head steady? 2. Can your baby coordinate their eyes, hands and mouth, so they can look at food, pick it up and put it in their mouth? 3. Can they swallow foods? (The sign for this is that, when they bring something to their mouth, they no longer push it away with their tongue.)
