No numbers, shapes or colours

Anyone else's kid doesn't know letters, numbers, shapes and colours? Should I worry? :(

Does your little one have any words yet?

Mine can count 1-14 on the stairs but I'm not sure they know what they're actually doing. No letters, no shapes, no colours except repeating after us. Our first was the same and is thriving in school now aged 5.

Mine been in nursery since 8 months old, knows colours - some numbers, most basic shapes but doesn’t recognise numbers on a page but can count out loud

Mine knows colours, as in the names of different colours but doesn't actually ever identify them correctly, just says any random colour 😂 for a while everything was red so at least we've progressed from that! Numbers be can count 1-10 just about but think he's just learnt the sequence, I don't think he'd know the number symbol or actually count items. Letters no I don't think he knows any. Shapes, nursery drew him a circle, square and triangle the other week and when they asked him what they were he said Benny, daddy and Ellie (his key worker) so no I don't think we have shapes yet 🤣 I'm not worried at all, he's happy, learning and loves reading so all those connections will be forming and it'll just happen at different times for them all, his speech has exploded in the last few months. Have you had your 2 year review with health visitor yet? You could always raise it with them if you're concerned. Does your LO go to nursery as they would probably have raised it if they felt there were any issues c

Mine has only just started getting colours correct, she can count to 14 but only really understands 1 and 2 (and definitely can’t read number symbols). Letters - no Shapes - maybe triangle and circle, but nothing else.

Mine identifies all colours as blue, can count and sing the ABC but doesn't recognise the numbers on page. But he's trilingual and speaks really well in both English and Spanish (and understands but doesn't quite speak Albanian) so not worried in the slightest. I just keep identifying them for him. They'll get there! Do you have any additional concerns as regards language? I don't think just confusing colours, shapes and numbers really matters. If your kid can communicate needs, actions and some emotions, that's much more useful!

Our 27 month old are can recognise and say colours confidently, can count the stairs copying us and will attempt to count alone (but may eg start at 6… he’s more mimicking the sounds), shapes he’s okay at. I wouldn’t worry too much as our boys scored really high on his development & speech. He’s only in nursery 1 day a week xxx

@Alex she says a lot of words (lost count) and understands everything we say in two languages

If she’s speaking some words and particularly it two languages (wow!) I wouldn’t worry at all!
