Rotherham Matternity Ward - Feeback

Hi guys, I'm considering transfering to Rotherham Hospital has it offers the birth options I want. I would like to hear from other mamas who have had their babies in Rotherham, what was your experience like and do you recommend the hospital? Thank you.

I’d love to hear about this too!

We had a fab experience last time so we’ve chosen Rotherham again 😌 couldn’t fault them personally!

My experience overall was good. The actual birth, even though it all changed so fast and I ended up having an emergency c section - all the staff were amazing and so good to me. The aftercare was a little hit and miss depending on the staff on shift, some would sort of leave you to it. But I was in for 4 days after my birth x

Spent 13 dayys in total in Rotherham Hospital on mat ward all the staff not just midwives. But the support. Staff/consults students are lovely! All very supportive all listened to me and my worries And helped me not just. With birth but anything they’d be there. To listen.

I gave birth in Sheffield but baby was admitted to Rotherham hospital in the CAU and we were under Rotherham midwife’s and had awful experience to the point we filled a complaint for negligence, in short the midwife’s told me I was overfeeding my baby (that is breastfed) and I need to feed her every 3h on the dot and no sooner, when asked what would I do if she’s hungry after 90 min (which she usually was at the time) they told me to give her a dummy. She was 5 days old. That is only my experience and at work the views on the hospital at 50:50. Those that love it swear by it and those that had bad experiences tell others to stay away 🤷🏼‍♀️

Had an amazing experience I think as long as you know what you want and you make it clear or have a partner who can advocate for you you’ll be fine x

@Chloe i had my baby at rotherham and tbh i cannot fault them at all stayed for 5 days after birth they were very helpful answered any questions we had, even offered emotional support, on one particular day i was upset due to baby blues and a nurse came and sat with me, and sped up the discharge process for me as i told her how i just wanted to go home

I used to recommend them because my first 2 births they were amazing! My 3rd not so much! I was overdue by 1 day. My waters popped at home at 2pm I called them and they said to go in for 3:30pm. We got there by 4pm. My contractions were every 10 minutes, they walked in straight said "we'll do your ops then send you home" sorry what? Anyway they gave me some codine and told me to get a bath and sent me home...I got home for 6:30pm my contractions were every 5 minutesish. I got in the bath like instructed but couldn't bare the pain I was in, my mum ended up calling 999. Unfortunately they couldn't get an ambulance out to me for an hour 7:43pm I gave birth to my daughter on our bed with just my partner, my mum and his mum in the room! When the ambulance took me to the hospital I ended up back in the same room I was in the first time I went that day 🙃 glad she's my last! X

I had an induction which turned into planned emergency c section and we had a really positive experience up until leaving the hospital. Baby lost quite a bit of weight which then had a knock on affect with long jaundice and a few night stays in hospital. Lot of this could have been avoided if baby had been closer monitored for his weight, which he wasn’t. We also were not giving a feeding plan which they’re meant to do in those circumstances where babies loose weight. I also didn’t have the right care following c section and they missed my checks etc… I (think) I would still go to Rotherham if I had a second child. This was my first baby so I had no idea what was right/ wrong and I do now so would be able to advocate for myself a bit more. The experience having baby and the immediate care afterwards is what makes me want to go back there, as it was genuinely a really comfortable experience x

First baby was fine, second baby was a elective c section (first was emergency) I got to the table and as they do they told me to sit on the bed, they’d not put the brakes on so I nearly flat packed on the floor, then one of the surgeons literally jumped over the wires that were connected to me, they also had changed a piece of equipment on the bed and not told the main surgeon and again I nearly fell off the bed and they had to literally hold me up until they ran and got the old piece. I thought I was going to die tbh it felt like some sort of skit🤣 the midwives and nurses were okay though!

I had 1 amazing midwife (a sister) but was massively let down by them before and after birth, stayed for a week and he never met nappy outputs but they signed us off as successfully breastfeeding 🤦🏼‍♀️ never wrote in my notes about his very obvious tongue tie despite 3 professionals commenting on it. Went to Doncaster this time and they really were brilliant, before, during, after and also much nicer facilities!! Would choose doncaster over rotherham again in a heartbeat.

Amazing

I had my babies at Rotherham, the aftercare on the ward was good i was there a few days
