Bluebell vs. Hospital Ward birth

Hi all - I’ll be giving birth at Warwick hospital and I’m really torn as to whether I would prefer giving birth in the midwife-led Bluebell Birth Centre or to opt for the labour ward in the actual hospital which is consultant/doctor led. I’ve heard mixed stories about both and was hoping to hear from anyone with experience on either. Also aware anything can happen on the day and I might be moved anyway but initially I’d like to have some plan :) thanks in advance!

Both my pregnancies have been high risk so I wasn’t allowed on Bluebell with either but after my first (2 years ago) we were moved onto bluebell as I recovered from birth and it was absolutely amazing! So relaxing and beautiful

I had both of mine in bluebell and had wonderful care throughout! What I like about bluebell is the quick discharge side of things. As you say, anything can happen and if you require more care they will move you.

I have this decision to make soon 😅 I like both wards, to be honest. I had my baby checked last week in the labour ward and it was really lovely. If you need more care in the BB, then they will transfer you anyway! Xx

I had both my labours in bluebell, and honestly it was lovely - both of mine ended up being rushed to labour ward, but I gave birth with no intervention within minutes and was moved back down to bluebell both times 😂. If I were to have another, I’d 100% chose to labour (and hopefully birth this time) in bluebell To add, the only negative I had was that I almost gave birth to my second in the corridor as they transferred me..not my finest moment 😂

I had my baby in bluebell and it was an amazing experience. Such a calm atmosphere. If you can definitely go there! Xx

Thank you all. This is so helpful to know. I have loved my experience so far in bluebell and it’s up my street with the calm atmosphere so hoping it stays that way!

I used bluebell for my second and it was peaceful, a home from home essentially. Level of care was no different to a ward I would encourage a birthing centre every time.

I had my baby 5 weeks ago at Bluebell. I made the decision to have her there as soon as I found out I was pregnant. The whole experience was amazing and as a FTM I couldn’t have asked for anything better. My midwife Beth was wonderful and made my labour so chilled and she was so supportive. I gave birth at 11:43pm and was back home with baby by 2pm the following day. The rooms were lovely and you actually have a proper bed so your partner won’t be sleeping in an uncomfortable chair. Plus you don’t be on a potentially noisy and busy ward. IF I ever decide to have another baby, I would definitely go to the Bluebell again x

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m happy to hear such positive stories about bluebell x

I’ve had one baby on labour ward and one baby in Bluebell, if I had another child I would absolutely be opting for Bluebell if it was an option. Very calming, very private, quick discharge and a wonderful experience xx

I had my baby 6 weeks ago and was hopeful for Bluebell but needed to give birth on labour ward due to meconium. I genuinely couldn’t fault it, the room was nice, the midwives were amazing and it was overall a really positive experience 🥰 It did mean we had to spend the night on Swan ward which was noisy but then again the midwives were fab!

That’s great to hear, thank you. It seems like both are quite good then which makes me less nervous for on the day even if I do need to be moved x
