Drinking water

My little girl has just turned 6 months and as we have started weaning our health visitor has said to also offer some sips of water. My daughter just gags at the water, I don’t want to give her juice or any flavourings, has anyone got any tips to help her transition?

Have you tried a different type of cup? Also gagging with new textures/experiences is very normal so maybe it’s just taking her a bit of time for her to get used to it. I wouldn’t worry too much at the moment as she will get all her hydration from milk still, and also from watery foods like fruit. We’re using a TumTum straw cup and I think it’s helped that she watches me drink from a big Stanley cup! And also the straw means she can control how much water she gets at a time :)

Don’t worry too much, from 6 months you can offer 2-6oz of water a day 8oz if constipated mostly to help with processing solid foods, most babies won’t take to water very quickly it’s very plain compared to milk/bm they get their hydration from milk until 1 so only having tiny amounts here and there until you transition to cows milk is okay. My little boy also gags so we offer it but it’s not a problem if he doesn’t have any x

Just keep offering it and she will get used to it

I’d keep offering it and she’ll adjust. I found a free flow bottle was handy at first and now my girl uses a bottle with a straw which prevents her watering the place 😂

This is totally normal, they gag because water is thinner than milk and they're not used to swallowing something so thin, they get used to it 👍
