So I hear the latch is quite good!! Just not super super wide so practicing but she just worn her her mouth super super wide - think due to having it cut maybe and habit of not being able to
Are u using lanolin? Keep going mama! Eventually it gets better, if it is too painful, try pumping instead but I personally avoided using a nipple shield. Silver cups may also work? I didn’t personally try them with my LO, he had a v bad tongue tie that was hidden so I was in pain for 6 weeks bleeding cracked the sorts, I was tempted to try the silver cups but didn’t have the funds at the time to invest in them but lanolin helped me a lot x
Yeh I was using shields for two days and stopped as midwife said can make latch worse! And have done pumping etc and just becomes too much effort so now EBF it's not painful painful now just a bit sore - it's not blistering though as I'm guessing that's an improvement
@T✨ did you see an improvement straight away?? Or did it take a while? I'm on day 4 and hoping she starts giving me that wide latch. As I said must have helped a bit as even when sore I don't get the blisters when she comes off now.
@kelly lanolin didn’t improve things right away but I kept consistent and applied it everytime he would latch so it wouldn’t worsen the scabs I already had. I think it took about 2-3 weeks id like to say before things felt better, certainly felt better first before it looked better! (Scabs were still there but it didn’t hurt). Try different BF positions as well, rugby hold helped me a lot during that time. And also use ur thumb to flick the nipple / flipple method for a wider latch. Have u reached out to breastfeeding support group? Do u have one nearby? I had a volunteer come visit me MANY times to get the latch right. There is support always available! Don’t be afraid to use it. Praying it gets better for u soon x
No advice just wanted to let you know that I'm in the same boat, had TT cut, I'm not cut anymore but still painful on the initial latch, been told latch is good but she doesnt open her mouth wide to latch, more sucks, my 1st was the same and we found an osteopath really helped so we've booked our 2nd in in the hope it helps x
@T✨ thank you!! Yeh I luckily don't have any scabs or blisters just soreness
Just keep going don’t stop and don’t give up, ur supply will be fine as long as u keep feeding on demand and it takes 6 weeks anyway for ur supply to establish so u have time dont worry x
@T✨ was hoping the tongue tie being cut would be an immediate fix but obvs it's much longer to re learn to latch wide
@T✨ yes had so much support feel I've seen someone every day guessing it's just practice for my daughter to get better and for the tongue to re train
@kelly they’re re learning how to use their tongue again, luckily it got cut early and it shudnt take too long to figure it out. U got this mama, keep going! x
@T✨ thank you yeh luckily around 3 ish weeks.... but 3 weeks of pure agony! So sad they aren't picked up sooner
@kelly tell me about it! When they checked him out at the hospital they said they notice a small tongue tie and it may not even need cutting but they’ll still do referral, I came home and had the most painful latch ever. My LB was crying and I was crying the entire time, for weeks I kept calling for support but no one was interested. The midwives visited just recommended different positions but no one really took a look until I made a very distressing call to the infant feeding team, they were so concerned they called me in then and there and once they saw his tongue tie they said it was the worst they’ve ever seen in history and had to call a senior surgeon to get it cut as it as it was so far back and they were scared to mess it up. It was such a big relief when they did cut it but then began the re learning of using the tongue and getting the correct latch. But hopefully I’ve helped u realise there is light at the end of the tunnel, my LB is now 6 months now and all is good!
@T✨ god poor you! That is literally our journey!!!! Not the most awful TT but was killing me mentally and emotionally. The pain was so horrific I would sweat so much in agony!! Kept being old BF does hurt 😩😩😩 my mum kept telling me it wasn't normal to hurt this bad. Such a shame that women have to suffer so long and delay improving the latch. Yeh I'm sooooo excited for the day it doesn't hurt and can enjoy feeding

@Joanna oh yes heard osteo good be helpful so going to try next week!! Yeh same I get told my latch is good but def need her to get a wider latch for sure! Again just can't wait for it not to be painful
Been in this position too - it’s so painful and hard going when you try so much and the latch isn’t effective. Had my babies tongue tie cut nearly 2 weeks ago and can confirm it’s a LOT better. He is also getting more milk - can see it around his mouth. Before it would leak out the side due to poor latch, Are you doing the tongue tie after care? They should have given you a leaflet Keep going with it!
@Ceri yeh it's been so hard! Last night had to give her to my partner as I was so upset and broken from her not latching and crying my eyes out!!
@Ceri how long did it take for it to get easier! Day 4 and just praying! So fed up fighting with her to latch as she seeks so distressed... and doing everything right to her her to latch toon
Have you got a breastfeeding support group you could attend to get the latch checked out ?
