Kids and their questions.

My 7-year-old asked if we thought life would have been better if we didn’t have kids. I asked her why she decided to ask. She said she’s noticed how much we do, always trying to make sure everyone is okay and ready. She said we walk side by side in public, and sometimes it feels like it's all too much for us. She wonders if things would have been easier for us if we were just a couple. I’m still thinking, still wondering, and quietly hoping we haven’t sent the wrong message.

It sounds like you have a very empathetic, in-tune daughter. It might not be that you’ve sent the wrong message, and that she’s simply observing facts (that you do a lot for your family etc). I understand your thoughts on why she’s asked this though, as I’d probably feel the same. It seems like she just sees how hard you work. No doubt you make her feel well looked after and loved so she wants to check on you! 🫶🏻

My 4yo asked this. Just about me not my husband, lol. She's so wise. It feels good knowing that all of my talk about taking different perspectives is sinking in... They wonder about everything, this is a totally natural thought to explore.

@Bec Thank you for sharing this perspective. It really opened my eyes and made me feel better.

@Bonny So good to know that you have experienced this. Thank you for sharing your story.
