My son is 3 weeks old and for around a week has been in discomfort when pooing and passing a lot of wind. Once he poos he seems to be more content until the next time, and it is always worse in the early hours of the morning.
He has plenty of poos and the health visitor has said it is an immature immune system and will pass. I was wondering however if it could be an allergy as little bumps have started to appear on his face over the last two days, and my husband is allergic to cows milk.
Has anyone dealt with this? If so what was the cause and did anything help with the discomfort?

Sometimes it can be firmer as he's formula fed, but it's never hard. But for about 30 minutes before having his poo, he would scream and cry until he had passed his poo. When speaking to the health visitor and the midwives, they have both said it was because newborns don't know which muscles they need to use to open their bowels, so they make the straining sounds and go red in the face as though they are constipated. He also has little bumps on his face, neck and ears. But I've been told these are milk spots. Is your son uncomfortable after having each feed? X
My baby was the same , straining for soft poos but then he had blood in his poo so was diagnosed with cows milk protein allergy xx
Thank you both, he doesn’t seem uncomfortable after a feed and doesn’t have blood in his poo, so must just be that he is figuring out how to poo x
