Is Eloise a nice name? Your personally thoughts

Second guessing as my MIL has told my colleagues that she hates the name and I’m only naming her that to be ‘original’ and would prefer we used a traditional name. She’s put lots of names to me but never said to me personally she hates the name or assumed why I’m liking it.
I’m starting to wonder if it is a nice name? My mum also doesn’t like the name.
I always felt strongly about it as it had a personally connection in regard to a girl I used to be friends and in awe of.

What’s your honest thoughts? Too out there or not a nice name?

I think it's a really pretty name, very feminine, and also quite unique! I work in a school and there has only been one here that I recollect, which is quite rare! Honestly, I wouldn't listen to other people's opinions it's up to you and your partner, and quite simply they can like it or lump it 😅 please don't let opinions make you second guess yourself as you know best xx

Gorgeous name! With very cute nickname potential too xx

It’s a lovely name, I think it’s quite traditional, not sure what MIL is talking about.
I think it’s a good name cause it’s easy to understand, not like you’re trying to name your child something outrageous so not sure what’s there to dislike

I really don’t think it’s that ‘out there’ to be honest! It’s a beautiful name

I'm obviously biased 😅 but as an Eloisa - pronounced like Eloise but an "uh/ah" sound at the end instead, I've always had compliments on a slightly more unusual name! My parents thought they'd shorten my name to Elly but never did and my mum hated it when I got given the nick name "Lou" as a teenager 😂 But if you like the name then that's all that matters, they're your baby and you get the privilege of naming them and I'm sure once she arrives your MIL will be smitten regardless of the name you choose 😊 xx

Stunning name. I have a cousin called Eloise, otherwise it would definitely be on my list is I ever have a wee girl!
But I understand your struggle. My first choice name for my little boy isn't liked by my mum nor my in-laws, which is upsetting and off putting - but at the end of the day, my husband and I love it, and once he's here, it'll just have to grow on the others 😂. X

Would it be pronounced ‘ell - Louise’? I think it’s a lovely name but I remember being unable to pronounce it properly every time I spoke to my daughter’s nursery staff member. She told me people sometimes call her Elise instead and she isn’t bothered but I liked the way it should be pronounced ‘Louise’ with ell at the front 🩷 I just kept forgetting every time I spoke to her 🫣

She sounds like a bellend sorry. How dare she do that. We’ve never shared our names before the baby is born as I can’t be arsed to hate people that much for their inappropriate behaviour when pregnant baba

Thanks everyone. I loved this name since before I was pregnant & the girl I met when I was younger was the sweetest girl and it’s always stuck.
It’s annoying that I’ve been doubting it because my mum/ MiL don’t like it. I started to think, well is it not as nice as I think it is? It’s annoying that they even give their opinions. I would never say to someone ‘I don’t like that name’ 🙈 I’ve said to my husband last night that if his mum mentions it again (for the umpteenth time) that I’m going to end up saying something out of frustration. My mum has said once she wasn’t keen on it but thankfully hasn’t mentioned it since. Eughhh family 🤣

It’s honestly a beautiful name. Nobody would ever change my mind about the name I’ve chosen whether they like it or not. If it’s special to you then that’s all that matters.
Some people are just dicks!
I always choose very different names and keep it to myself because they’re not to everyone’s taste but they learn to love it 😊

We have an Eloise (now 15 months). It was on our list throughout the pregnancy but after she was born I had a sudden "oh my god is this name too 'out there'" moment but I'm sooo glad we stuck with it, we have had so many compliments 🥰 and no one has ever asked how it's spelt or misheard for another name.
