Disconnect with second pregnancy

I don’t imagine many are feeling like this but I’m pregnant with baby number 2 and I feel a total disconnect with this pregnancy - I’m finding it quite hard to come to terms with the fact that I’m actually pregnant. I’m 18 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 and my first born is nearly 16.5 months. I love my first born so so much it is unreal and I just feel like I’m pregnant too soon & bringing a sibling into the mix too soon (despite this being a planned pregnancy). I don’t want to really take photos of my emerging bump or acknowledge it when friends ask! It doesn’t help that we found out the sex at 16 weeks and I’m experiencing slight gender disappointment too. Will I emerge from this 😢? I am having ‘talking therapy’ via which officially starts next week so also hoping that helps but I just don’t know what I’ve done..

No no I am the same… feeling fortunate that this baby inside doesn’t need much active attention from me because I spend a lot a lot of time fretting over my 11 month old. Also a planned pregnancy. We find out the gender soon too @ 16 weeks.

I feel exactly the same, 2nd pregnancy too. I’m so thankful to be pregnant, but feel overwhelmingly nervous about the change and the guilt towards my 1st born. I found finding out the sex helped me feel more connected (we will have 2 boys) I think how your feeling is normal and justified xx

I'm going through gender disappointment. Everyone was so convinced we were having a girl and our scan showed a girl nub. Turns out we're having our second boy and I feel really disconnected now. I'm trying to focus on how much I love our first boy and number 2 will be no different once he's here, but it's not that easy, especially when I've got a close pregnant friend expecting a girl around the same time. You'll get there, we all will.

Thank you all. I can’t tell you how much better it makes me feel knowing I am not alone. I am also expecting my second son & was convinced / hoping that baby number 2 was a little girl despite loving my little boy to bits & loving being a boy mum. I don’t know what it is? Are we conditioned to want our own gender or one of each, I’m not sure. I just feel so terrible for not connecting or particularly acknowledging this pregnancy! Knowing the gender has helped me connect a little more & I hope give it time…
