This is my second and my first was completely natural, no epidural or intervention whatsoever. I’m electing cesarean and everyone looks at me like I’m crazy, am I crazy? Looking for advice from experienced mamas. My argument is, that I can’t welcome my newborn baby in a way that can even potentially distress him. I’m not concerned about the “major abdominal surgery,” I’m concerned about my baby being welcomed peacefully, on his part. I understand he’s not going to die because he’s being “monitored,” but it just doesn’t sit in my head to put him through that risk of decreasing his oxygen & heart rate. How is that crazy ?!?!?!

I was induced and still ended up having c section. Remember when your induced, contraction pains are worse

Elective c section is a totally legitimate choice. It’s a big surgery, and there are drawbacks, but inductions have lots of draw backs too. Give birth the way you know is right for you and your baba 🩷🌸

If you have had one birth your body knows better what to do than when it is a first. With an induction there’s a fair chance you will go into labour naturally without having the drip, or have a lower amount of the drip altogether. If baby is distressed that’ll be monitored and they’ll let you know. There’s a lot of benefits for baby if they are birthed vaginally and for yourself like a shorter recovery time etc. Don’t take it that I am shaming your decision either, I find csections scary so I don’t think I’d be able to go through with one unless absolutely necessary!

It’s a hard decision to make there are pros and cons to each. I would choose an induction because I have a lot of fear around medications and not being in control. I love that you have chosen the best option for yourself that’s not crazy at all! You are the only person birthing your child so your decision is the only one that matters

You don’t have to choose. You can choose to deliver your baby completely natural . Induction and c-section are both risky and distressing for mom and baby. Check out free birth society podcast . No one can tell you what you have to do , the choice is yours

I was induced and ended up in emergency Csection, wish I either declined the induction or opted for planned Csection xxxx

My midwife told me at least a third of inductions become emergency c sections. Having gone into spontaneous labour myself and getting all the way to 8 or 9 cm before needing a csection I would opt for an elective c section if I have another because both labour and the surgery take a toll separate but the stress of both was a lot. I was terrified at the thought of a csection initially but now I just wish we'd done it sooner

Most inductions end in c section so I’d avoid the stress and go straight to c section. I had a c section after induction and it was very peaceful but yes recovery is hard

I flip flopped between the two but ultimately chose induction and it was just great. Obvs painful but after when I saw all those c section mums unable to sit up and pick up their baby post recovery I was so glad.
Every birth comes with risk so do what you feel in your gut is best xx

Massively depends on reason for why they’re offering induction/C-section. Due to size? Scan might be incorrect or has baby got a medical condition that need immediate intervention at birth?
I completely agree with you that you want baby out safely that was my priority and I wish I pushed harder for elective C-section over induction at 41weeks with my first cause it lead to a C-section. Due to that I ended up having an elective 2nd time round. C-section recovery isn’t too bad but with a toddler and a baby it isn’t ideal.
However we hear so many horror story’s on inductions when there’s just as many positive ones.
My friends who have had inductions second time round have gone smoothly some not even needing the hormone drip I guess cause they’ve previously birthed babies vaginally. I’ve heard people refer to it as “muscle memory” your uterus knows what it’s gotta do 🤷🏻♀️

I did an elective and then had an emergency one the night before it with my son 🥴 I personally am hoping for a vbac our next time as recovery was long and very hard with a newborn, but if I had to choose between induction or c section again I'd probably do a c section.

Depends on induction methods and when. If your 38-39 weeks, consecutive sweeps may work. Cervix softeners. A pitocin birth with epidural is still faster recovery. Awkward about patient controlled epidural, gas and walking epidural. It's very possible to skip abdominal surgery. I definitely wouldn't be myvfirst choice
I had induction with my first on pitocin. Labored 10hours then asked for epidural. Few hours in they broke my waters and after I was pushing. Nothing insane happened beside them contractions

I was induced due to my medical issues and needed an emergency C-section. I'm working through the emotions of mot being able to experience a vaginal birth, however, with a c-section they vacuum you out before closing you up, so the bleeding after birth is like a light period.
Don't sneeze or cough or laugh too hard in the first two weeks!! 😅 I became OK with the idea of a C-section due to the after care being a little simpler.. in my mind.. I just had to remind myself for the first 3 to 4 weeks that I had major surgery, even though I was feel good

I had an elective C-section with my second baby and it was an extremely positive experience. And the recovery was nowhere near as difficult as I had expected. Obviously not everyone's experience is going to be the same and what is the right decision for one person may not be for another. But I don't think choosing an elective C-section is crazy at all. I would absolutely choose a C-section again for me personally.

I was induced then it was such a lot of pain I requested the epidural, my baby already started to be in distressed before I got it, when I got it, heart dropped and I went for an emergency c-section
All the women I know who was induced ended up with the exact same story 😅
Maybe check the stats about it and ask your doctor about your chances ?
The pain seems to be really something else when being induced, just be aware of that, don’t do like me and wait until unbearable to ask the epidural 😅
A planned c-section would have been much better and safer for me : less risks for everyone, better scar, less stress for everyone (my poor husband !!)
But I think it’s a very very personal choice, I don’t regret my decision because having a natural birth was really my wish and I would have really regret not having tried !

It’s definitely a personal choice. I choose to have a planned C-section due to the amount of issues I had heard can arise from inductions, and the time they can take to work also (my LO needed to come). Plus a large number of inductions end up in emergency c-sections and in my opinion a planned surgery is always going to be better than an emergency one and my recovery was much better than my two friends that had inductions which ended in emergency c-section, one of which had a lot of trauma - but as I said it’s a personal choice that only you can decided upon

Hated my induction experience and will not go through that again. I’m 22 weeks now and haven’t decided between elective c section or VBAC yet but leaning toward c section to avoid any risk of needing to be induced. It’s all personal choice and no one should be judged for their decisions!

I was induced with my daughter (1st baby) and it went really well. Admitted on the 22nd January 2024 and by the 25th she was here. I think it’s hard asking questions on forums like this as you’ll probably hear more negative experiences than positive due to not many people speaking about their positive experiences. When I asked about inductions on here everyone made me feel awful for it, saying I’m a bad mum for putting my baby in harms way and how it would end up in a c section… it didn’t, I had a vaginal birth and it went well. Everyone made me feel SO scared for it and it ended up fine. Everyone’s body reacts differently to labour, what happens to another person might not happen to you. It’s 100% up to you what you want to do, I’d research everything and then make a decision based on how YOU feel about it xx

I had a planned c-section because I refused to be induced and it was the best decision! Went in at 15:50, got the spinal injection, baby girl born at 16:09 and I was in the ward by 17:00! Up and walking by 22:00 without the catheter, home by 18:00 the next day! Now a month post partum and I feel fine, incision healing perfectly, stopped taking painkillers after 2 weeks. Still bleeding but that can continue til 6 weeks. I'd definitely go for a planned c-section over an induction any day. So many inductions end up in emergency c-section anyways and it's a LOT less chill. But each to their own! Good luck mama, hope everything goes smoothly! 💖Xx

I had a complicated first pregnancy which resulted in emergency c-section due to placental abruption and defreasing heart rate and it was horrific to go through.Baby was measuring small throughout pregnancy and they're were going to induce me at 37 weeks but I just managed to hit the right growth to go to full term.Because of all of that I researched a lot about inductions and ultimately decided if they were to induce id want a c-section instead.I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and high risk and this time we're going for an elective section regardless.I've been offered vbac but given previous circumstances and the potential of a stressful labour/birth for baby and me we've decided its best to be in control of that decision and choose a birth that suits us and can limit the possible trauma we've already experienced.C-section recovery was better than I expected, the first week is the toughest and as long as you take it slow and stay topped up on pain relief its manageable! Good luck whatever you choose!

My induction didn’t go as planned and had an emergency c sections anyways. I wish I would have waited or done elective c section

Did you have a bad experience with your first as to why you want to opt for a section?
I was induced and ended up having an unplanned (I wouldn’t say an emergency) c section and I really would have done anything to have a vaginal birth. Recovery was brutal, although you have a lot more control and options with an elective section eg. you can have skin to skin, music playing and things compared to if it was an emergency but I missed out on skin to skin, holding my baby when she was first born, seeing her for a good 30 minutes after .. there was a lot of downsides to a section for me. As well as when I was coming out of surgery I felt helpless and they just plonked the baby on me when I was still numb, dad had to literally take care of her for the first night as I was just unable to do anything and it was pretty disheartening..
However if you feel like you’ll have a much calmer experience then go for it!

I've had 2 emergency c sections, the second being after an induction. For sure, I would've chosen to have an elective c section if I could. My first one I had no control or idea of what to expect but second time round despite it being emergency I felt more in control and calm.

I was induced due to reduced movements and ended up with emergency c-section 4-5 days later. If I was to go back in time knowing what I know now, I would’ve skipped induction and gone for elective c-section. Those 4-5 days induction was the worst. Went through 3 types of induction and only dilated 3cm!!! 😭😭😭 I was exhausted and both mine and my daughter’s heart rates kept going up and we ended up with an infection. 🙈
This meant my daughter went straight to NICU with daddy after an initial kiss & mini cuddle whilst I was being stitched back up. She spent her first 3-4 hours in NICU whilst I was in the recovery ward alone 😔
