Lucina Birth Centre Croydon

Has anyone delivered at this centre before? What was your experience? Did you run into complications, or not? How were the midwifery team in their care?

I laboured there and it was lovely and the team were lovely. I didn’t deliver there because my baby was in distress the cord was stuck round his neck and his heart began slowing down so obviously they took me round to have c section in the end as he wasn’t recovering. However I was there all day from the morning until evening and was fine

I delivered there in March. Honestly it was the best experience! I had a wonderful midwife who just knew how to manage my needs, the care was on point and baby girl was born in the big birth pool. There are obviously students present but the experienced midwives are there for the important parts. I think it’s good because even if you run into complications you can just go to labour ward next door and that made me feel at ease x

I also laboured there, but I was taken to the labour ward to deliver as baby was at a weird angle and I also had a panic attack! I found the team were great, and the students were also lovely. My only criticism is that I had made it clear I did not want anyone else in the room apart from my partner, but somehow my MIL made her way into my room (as I was contracting!). So I wish there was a bit more care/mindfulness around this from the team. They were very accommodating and allowed me back onto the birth centre after delivery to stay in a private room to myself as opposed to a post-natal ward. I think that was more luck as it was quiet over there. Good luck with your birth! Reach out if you need anything ☺️

It was the best place to have my little girl. My only downside was that I laboured on Boxing Day, and they were understaffed so didn’t get to stay in the private room for the full time after delivering but had to be moved to a ward. But the delivery itself, was great and the midwives there are so lovely.

@Rachel Oh, that must have been so scary with heart rate dropping! 😳 I’m glad it all worked out in the end though and that you felt cared for while at the centre and hospital 🙂

@ARC Oh, I’m so pleased to hear that! 🙂 That’s what every woman deserves, to feel cared for and looked after. Thank you for sharing your experience x

@Lucy That must have been frightening with baby at weird angle and panic attack! 😳 Glad it all worked out though and thanks for sharing your insight and critique. I’m considering it as I would love to have a somewhat calmer experience than I’ve had in the past. Thanks again for sharing x

@Holly Thank you for sharing your experience. So nice to hear that you felt well taken care of over there, it’s so important when you’re labour. I can understand the understaffing having an impact too but glad it didn’t take anything away from the experience as a whole x

I gave birth there 2 weeks ago, very good experience and caring midwifes. After the delivery I had a private room and my husband could stay overnight with us. Only thing that I wish was different is that I was taken to the birthing center earlier, I spent around 2 hours in the triage with strong contractions.

@Zane That’s lovely to hear and thank you for sharing your experience. I too have had poor experiences with the triage as their often understaffed and waiting times end up being longer as a result. Still, glad to hear you had a good experience in the end and it all worked out well for you and your baby x
