I’m worried about my toddler and even more worried now what I read online.
My toddler tends to love hugging strangers and would go and grab on them or want to be picked up by them. Online apparently this is Disinhibited social engagement disorder (DSED ) and it’s caused by a lack attachment to caregiver . Does this mean my toddler has a broken attachment to me? ( that sounds awful 💔). like he will come to me for comfort now but I felt a massive shift when he was in hospital and at times I couldn’t comfort him because he was on different machines etc.
Anyone had this ?

Oh my lord everything has a diagnosis now. You’re doing fine. It just means he loves people. He will likely just be a extrovert when hes older. It’s actually a good sign to me meaning people haven’t disappointed him in life? And he loves people? Idk that’s just my take on it.

hahaha honestly I laughed loud at your first line. Mums need to understand that these little ones are HUMAN. Just little. They have personalities too. Not everything is a disorder, it’s so unfair to them to keep projecting and labeling all sorts instead of just watching and helping them live their beautiful little lives. Gosh

Just to say my LO is also very friendly, even at 6 months he was holding his hands out to go to other people! He loves attention and will probably be a right extrovert when he gets older, I wouldn’t worry about it x

I daughter is the same she is too friendly she says hello to everyone and if they get the chance she goes up to get picked up by them etc . Im having a hard tike teaching her stranger danger 🤦🏾♀️

literally. It’s like we forgot that toddlers won’t be adults or behave like them.

If your kid was 12 it would be weird but it’s totally normal for toddlers to have disinhibited social behaviour (they’re basically half feral still lol). in a toddler it just means they’re very social which I think is a good thing. Mine is like that too and while we are teaching him how to be normal (respect peoples personal space etc) we’re still encouraging him to be social and outgoing. I don’t personally worry it says anything about our bond because I know it’s good, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t mean your kid has broken attachment either

You can’t make diagnoses yourself from google. Just because a disorder has some random similarities doesn’t mean so. It’s like a shy kid oh autistic, or full of energy oh ADHD . It sounds like a personality at this young curious age. Some kids love the attention. Only you would personally know about broken attachment, we wouldn’t, and nor would reading online would.

My little boy is the same and it’s one of my favourite things about him! He’s so sociable and absolutely loves people. I see it that we’ve done such a good job and built up their confidence so much and raised them to be a social little butterfly that will probably be the absolute life and soul when they’re older. My worst nightmare would be a clingy ‘I only want mummy’ baby! Just embrace it and be proud of their confidence!!!xxx

My son is so overly friendly and such an extrovert at 14 months old. He will hug everyone. He just loves people and has a great loving relationship to me as well. Your toddler is just friendly and loves people which I think to be a great thing
