Miscarriage- Medical Management

I’m sadly experiencing a missed miscarriage. I’m undecided on the next steps. Please can you share your experiences of medical management? Thank you

I’m sorry you are going through this 🫶🏻 I’ve been through it a month ago in Leeds… I was 15 weeks but pregnancy stopped at 13 weeks, I went for a confirmation of missed miscarriage and they gave me the 3 options which I chose medical management so they gave me a pill next day and sent me home for 48 hours then back to hospital for the second round of medication (in my case I took them orally). With this option you have less risk of permanent damage like with a D&C but can be really painful with real contractions (or at least it was for me, every body is different) and was lucky my hospital team was amazing, the support and reassurance was top level and thankfully for me it worked after two rounds of second medication because I had some placenta left but, take your time to consider what option works best for you and what you feel more comfortable with. If you want to talk more feel free to message me, it really help me to talk with other people that went through it before I decided

I chose expectant management with all 3 of my losses but ended up needing the pills after I had naturally released most of the tissue. It helped me but doesn’t work for everyone and some still need a d&c. How far along you are is a factor. I’d say if you’re 6 weeks or earlier then expectant management is nice. If you’re after 8 weeks id go back in time and get a d&c for two reasons. 1- so they can collect and test the tissue 2- alt had in not waiting 3 plus weeks for bleeding to begin on its own. I opted out of starting with the pills because I didn’t want to deal with the intense pain they can cause but they did not hurt using them after I had already passed most of the tissue on my own. I hope this helps! Sorry you’re in this.

Sorry about your loss. My MMC went naturally, the pain was like labor at the worst of it and I bled for like 3 weeks. I was offered the option of a D&C, which based on things I've read in groups like this, I kinda wish I had done. I don't think my bleeding and that physical reminder would have been so long had I gotten the D&C. I was nearly 13w, baby was 10w5d.

So sorry to hear this. I have had two medical management and to ge honest they were not too bad. I bled for around 5 days then spotted for another 2 or 3. The pain wasn't bad either- mostly back pain and cramping. The heaviest bleeding lasted about 2-3 hours

I'm so sorry for your loss 💔 I chose medical management. We chose this as they said this was the best option for the baby to be able to have a post mortum. I was 18 weeks but baby passed around 16 weeks. The experience was very traumatic, and painful. I bled for around 7 days, after. I had my period back 4 weeks after, and there have been no complications. Please be kind to yourself and take time to heal, and make the right decision for you
