Oh my gosh! My 2 yr old just started doing this. Sometimes I say no but most of the time I let her. I chalk it up to it being a phase. They won't always do that. She's just most comfortable on me. She eats the most and tries new food if she is on me.
Occasionally, sure! But if either of my toddlers start demanding things, I model what setting healthy boundaries looks like. This is a great time to explain to a toddler that rejection is not something we should ever take personally. 'Momma is eating and I need my personal space.' 'This meal is messy and I don't want your food to fall on me, so ill eat over here today.' 'This is my body and I want to keep it to myself right now, thank you for understanding!' As adults, I don't want them afraid to say those things for fear of 'hurting someone's feelings'. They should know that it's okay to say no and protect their body, it's okay for mom to do the same. Im a human mom, not a machine and I tell them the truth 🤷🏾♀️ I've seen my toddler tell his little sister to stop touching his body and give him space. You'll get tantrums because its new, but eventually your toddler understands
@J.S. Jaees love the phrasing! I would totally do this if she wasn't already underweight 😵💫 I have a hard time saying no when I know she will eat more and eat new stuff on me. She spends like 75% of the meal by herself usually then comes to sit with me to finish. Thanks for the examples of good wording. When I need a break I'll be sure to use it (:
Girl you just have to do what works for you. Toddlers are overwhelming sometimes and you have to do what works for you. If that works . Definitely nothing wrong with that
I do this with my picky son I find he's happy to eat a nice well rounded diet so long as it is food from mom's plate......
At this point I choose my battles lol. Because there are so many. I think it’s a phase. It’s so stressful to make a toddler eat. If she eats her food that way, does it quickly and with no wining I would let her. You don’t want to say her no all the time maybe choose the meal she can sit on your lap and other where she can’t. For example you tell her that breakfast everyone eats sitting certain way or lunch or whatever suits you best.
@Jo same with my girl. She eats way more on me.
Mine does sometimes when we go to a restaurant I don’t see a big deal
That’s the only time my 16 months old will eat.
Omg my 1 yr old does this right now and i don't gettttt it ahah he's like.. nope, im not eating unless its on YOUR lap off YOUR plate 🤣 I don't really allow it
My son sits on my lap often when he eats. It's just where he feels safest ❤️
