Dad struggles

Sorry, this is a long one! Thank you for reading.
Any advice or support would be so appreciated ❤️

Our baby is 12 weeks old now. My husband works full time and I’m at home with baby all day. When my husband comes home, he tries to interact with our baby and he always looks at me and smiles at me which bothers him. I leave the room and do other jobs to give him that bonding time with our baby but it’s really getting to him and he feels he doesn’t have a bond with our son.

He has said to me he loves seeing the bond I have with him but he wishes he could have that bond too. I’ve tried to explain to him that our baby still feels like he is part of me and not his own person yet and he lived in me for 9 months, hearing my voice and feeling my touch.

It breaks my heart that my husband feels this way and I’m trying so hard to help him build that relationship. I want to be able to have bonding time as a family but feel like me being there makes him feel invisible to our son. 💔

Has anyone else had any experience of this? How did you support your partner and when did your baby build that bond with their Dads?

I’d say he just has to push through and keep trying to build it. They’ll get there.
If you’re bottle feeding then let him do it at least 1 point each day so he can build that trust and closeness. Does her change his nappy? Because that will help too, especially if he’s talking to him whilst doing that.
Our little one is also 12 weeks and always smiles at her daddy and talks to him when he comes home from work.

Aww, I hope our little one will do the same soon too! He does the bottles when he comes home as well as the nappies. I get a break then 😂 I pretty much step back as soon as he comes home and I see that bond they have but I just think he can’t see it because he thinks my bond with him is stronger. I just hate seeing him upset like this 💔

I know what you mean and how you feel. I felt the same when my husband had the same feeling. I felt bad myself for having a good relationship with my daughter. She’d cry when he came home and took her off me and he’d get disheartened and give up. Don’t worry though, it sounds like you guys are doing the best things so you’ll get there ☺️

My husband constantly jokes that I’m the “favourite parent” and I’m just like no, I’m the milk lady lol I remind him all the time that when our son is older, he’s definitely going to be the fun parent that teaches him how to ride a bike etc as that kind of thing just isn’t my forte. I guess it’s just building the bond until then!

Hey, this sounds super similar to us when my baby was born, my husband said the same, he was naturally with my toddler and I was with baby so he felt he didn’t have a bond. It really upset me too so I know how you’re feeling. I started going to bed earlier than him and leaving him up with baby for an hour. They used to do skin to skin, play time and he’d give him his last feed before bed. After a week my husband said he felt so much better and now they have a great bond! Might he worth giving a go xxx

As women we get our oxytocin from comforting our babies, meeting the needs of our babies and soothing them! The dads/partners will get oxytocin from having fun with the babies, playing, rough and tumble and all the fun stuff 🤣 so right now some babies still feel like they are part of us (4th trimester) and we are safe the person but give it time, my daughter now 100% prefers her dad 😂🩷

I think most of the dad who work away from home feel that way. My husband used to say our baby doesn’t like him cos the baby didn’t smile at him but now the baby smiles at him and he just realized it took him a little longer to smile at him just cos I was home and played with him more. As the baby gets more alert and starts to play more he would realize that they actually know him and love him too

Really bothered by this

A friend posted this and it really bothers me because that is exactly how she parents her kid, and it's rather unfortunate because when our kids hang out together, her kid has a meltdown at least 5x within an hour. We have know them for years and it's only gotten worse. My kids will concede to hers, because they don't want to see their friend crying, but it sucks because they give up so much of their toys and enjoyment to keep the peace. We aren't hanging out as much anymore but it's rather sad to think she doesn't intervene more in her child tantrums and just let's it slide

Is this normal

Let’s say you’re at a softplay with your 2 year old, and some friends & their toddlers.
You buy your 2 year old a kids meal - chicken nuggets, beans, and chips. They’re very happy with it and have almost eaten it all.
They’re sat at the table, fork in hand, consistently eating, and have one chicken nugget left.
Your adult friend comes over from behind you, picks up the last chicken nugget, and eats it.
There was no indication that your child wasn’t going to eat it, and they didn’t ask. They just took it with no warning and ate it right in front of you and your toddler.
How you reacting?

Are these men ok?

I get so sad seeing all the posts on here daily about women dealing with partners who are treating them horribly. I know it seems over represented because those of us with great partners don’t need to write posts asking for help, but I really hope most of us don’t have these kinds of men in our lives!

I tell my husband about these posts I see sometimes and he’s even shocked by some of the things these guys say/do.

Nobody’s perfect, and every relationship takes work. And becoming parents is a stress test unlike any other for sure, but seeing how many women get stuck in these relationships with men who aren’t interested in being better is so so sad😞

But is/was your partner helpful, loving, and supportive during your pregnancy/PP/etc? Was he a wonderful person but changed for the worst after becoming a parent? Has he put effort into becoming the partner you need him to be, even if he struggles?

Car issues

Idk if I’m in the wrong. I have a full time job. My husband takes care of the kids while I worked. Today was the day I was supposed to get us a car. But I couldn’t cause of the down payment. So now he’s texting me saying I’m wasting his day to be alone at Walmart so he can spend his tax return. I really want to say go ahead. Leave. Leave the kids and me alone. While you go out and spend money. While your at go ahead and buy urself your drugs and a bitch to go fuck.

Lucky I’m even thinking about him about the car situation if not I would’ve been buying me and the kids a car small enough for us!

AND IT HAD A SPOT TO WIRELESSLY CHARGE
SOME HOW WITH 4 HOURS OF WORKING HE DIDN'T EVEN MAKE 20 BUCKS TO WASH CLOTHS ANOTHER RED FLAG

TWO NIGHTS AGO
HE CLAIMS TO GO OUT TO WORK. HANGS UP ON ME MID CONVERSATION 👀👀

4 HOURS PAST I'M GETTING SLEEPY STILL HAVEN'T HEARD FROM HIM
IT'S LIKE 1:30AM I TEXT HIM NIGHT I'M MAD CONFUSED ALMOST AN HOUR LATER I ANT HEARD FROM HIM SO I CHECK MY TEXT.
THE SHIT SAYS "PHONE OFFLINE" AND SHOWS THE TIME FRAME MY TEXT DIDN'T SEND
SO I START CALLING TO CONFIRM CAUSE I THOUGHT SOMETHING HAPPENED TO HIM. HE'S BEEN IN 2 CAR ACCIDENTS 👀 NEITHER HIS FAULT

SO I GET FRANTIC MY GUY

SO AT THIS POINT I'M PISSED OFF AND I TELL HIM I'M HANGING UP CAUSE I LOOK STUPID BEING WORRIED.

HE TURNS AROUND WHILE NOT BEING AROUND THIS CHICK AND FINALLY TELLS ME ALL THE DETAILS.
