I'd highly recommend this book. She explains so much, practical tips and also talking about meds. She is a psychiatrist working with juvenile prison boys in the uk. Over 50% of them who has adhd.

I just got the audio book.
@Ghitta thank you. I could also do with a little help from mums who have or are in a similar situation. But I do appreciate your suggestion 🙂

My son has ADHD & ASD. Both being quite high. My son is currently on Ritalin short acting for his ADHD to help him in a classroom setting. I, too was hesitant about putting him on ADHD medication because of the things I’d heard and read about the drug. His paediatrician was very understanding and explained everything and answered my questions, which put my mind at ease. They work very closely with him and ensure medical checks are done before putting a child on these kind of meds, as well as close monitoring afterwards. It is true that the drug may or may not work for your child but that’s why they’re monitored close so that dosage levels can be adjusted accordingly. There are two types for Ritalin. Short acting is roughly 4 hours it lasts for, it releases faster over that time and long acting. It releases slower and can last 6-8 hours. My son is currently on 10mg and it’s significantly improved his focus, behaviours and learning in the classroom.
@Mystique_Ethereal thank you 😊 it's just hard to know what to do because he only really struggles at school but strategy can help and I know he's frustrated as not able to do things because he hurt his wrist but after half term I think he will make progress again. I'm still 50/50 but hubby is 100% against as we both don't want him to change if that makes sense. But want to help at the same time

My partner was against it as well because he also has ADHD & went on Ritalin as a child. It had negative effects for him & didn’t work out for him in the end. So, he became incredibly biased about our son going on the medication himself due to his own experience. I was also hesitant but after trying everything else his paediatrician recommended with no success, I decided to bite the bullet & put him on it. Thankfully, it’s been successful as I said above. There will be a switch from short acting to long acting so he doesn’t have to take the second tablet at school. I suggest getting a psychologist involved as well who can offer advice and support on how you can better support your child. As well as an OT to help with coping strategies or emotional regulation support.
@Mystique_Ethereal he has an ot at school that helps. And alot of things and strategies are working its his impulse that he struggles with mainly. My hubby is undiagnosed adhd im diagnosed but I don't take anything. I wasn't diagnosed till 40.
My other issue is if we tried the medication he wouldn't have it. It's very hard to get calpol into him when poorly so don't want to distress him either 😕 or feel stick in the middle 😕

They offer liquid version to the tablet.
@Mystique_Ethereal thank you i didn't know this. I'll keep talking to the hubby and see how it goes. But im still 50/50.

Honestly it really depends on the child for example I tried meds with my daughter and they kept having to increase the amount her doctor said she would need to be on higher diagnosis but they never worked for her so I took her off and she's been doing fine without
