Breathing moniter for newborn - owlet or other!?

Soo in 2 minds about the owlet, read so many comments saying they cause a lot more anxiety and people get obsessed with the readings and they have false alarms etc, just wondering what other recommendations people have for something that monitors breathing mainly for newborns!? Or if you are passionate about the owlet it would help me make a decision to hear your thoughts too šŸ˜‚

Only at first you will keep checking ( what I did 🫣) I have an owlet socks and really help me to keep down my anxiety. It was also useful while my baby had a cold and her nose was stuffy.
Now I don’t check anymore the readings, we co sleep so it’s very useful for me.

I feel like that’s unnecessary unless your child has medical problems.. just causing anxiety for no reason.

I never got one of these for my little one when he was born. I think it causes soooo many anxiety ā€œissuesā€ for parents which isn’t what you need when you’ve just had a newborn!

Your little one is with you practically 24/7 for the first 6 months, in the same room and next to you. I personally think to trust your instincts not technology x

I have the owlet and I find it helps with anxiety, it doesn’t cause it. I hardly check it but love having the peace of mind that an alarm will sounds if something is wrong (especially when my baby started sleeping on his front). The only time I do check it is just to see how deep the baby is sleeping as his heart rate goes down to 90/100 when he is in a deep sleep which is handy. I couldn’t recommend the owlet enough.

Beware of these as they may add to your stress. Stay close to your little one. You wil wake if they are distressed (that's if you sleep at all anyway!)

The best argument I've seen against breathing monitors like these are from maternity nurses. You could fool yourself into a false sense of security by missing something important because the readings from the monitor seemed normal. They aren't medical devices and you aren't trained to interpret their readings or understand what the significance of those readings mean.

The best monitor for a newborn is mom. You will pay far more attention without a monitor and that's what your baby needs, your gut and your intuition.

I purchased the owlet sock when my baby had broncholitis at 3 weeks old. Him being poorly made me so anxious that I went with the sock and it was the best decision I made for peace of mind. It doesn’t mean I don’t use my instincts anymore or check on him for every little thing. I still know all the signs to look out for in terms of difficulty with breathing. I couldn’t recommend it enough if your anxiety is stopping you from sleeping when the baby sleeps (like mine was doing).
You do check the readings a lot when you first get it but I have had it for 7 weeks now and I just check it before he goes to sleep and when we get up for a feed. We haven’t had any false alarms yet but I know that it can happen, it’s just a case of knowing what to look for and not panicking if the alarm does go off until you do all the checks!

Thank you everyone! I think I will do some more research and see how I feel! I had the angelcare mat for my first child and did find that it helped with the anxiety, will weigh up the pros and cons!! ā˜ŗļø

I don’t think it’s needed. I heard the baby’s foot can move and cause a false alarm on the owlet sock

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Crying during feeding

Hey mams! My girl is 6 weeks on Monday and is having so much trouble with feeding. It doesn’t happen every feed but more often than not she will start a bottle and just start crying as if she’s in pain and she can’t take the milk. I think it’s trapped wind but I genuinely don’t know what to do it’s so pitiful to see her not be able to feed! She’s formula fed and on HiPP Organic.
Anyone else been in this position? I’m pretty sure it’s just a bit of trapped wind that she needs to fart out but can’t! If anyone has any advice I’d be very grateful as I think I may need to tape my eyelids open soon šŸ˜‚
