Plan to labor at home

I’m planning on laboring at home but like what’s the threshold? When would I go in? It feels so vague now that I’m getting closer to giving birth. If you’ve had a kid and labored at home before what made you decide to go in especially if you had an unmedicated delivery.

I haven’t done this, as my first was induced, but definitely ask your doctor. I know that there is not a one-size-fits-all answer.

I was induced with my first as well my midwife says come in when it feels right🫥

I asked my dr because I want to do the same she said every labor is different but since it’s my 3rd to go 3 hours at home then go in and I should be okay I told her I wasn’t trying to give birth in the car cause the hospital is about 30 minutes away lol

I was told to remember 4-1-1, 4 minutes a part, 1 minute duration for one hour. Then time to go!

I’m planning on laboring at home and my doctor said to follow the 5-1-1 rule! Contractions every 5 minutes and 1 minute in duration continuously for an hour. But if my water breaks, she wants me to come in sooner due to the risk of infection

Labored at home for both and had both unmediated. I went in at 3-5 min apart contractions with my first and delivered about 4 hours after I arrived. For my second, went in at 2-3 min apart contractions and delivered 10 min from getting to the hospital. I would definitely just listen to your body. You will know what’s best for you in the moment

Wow… that’s unhelpful… 😐

I know right?

Everyones labor is different and the 4-1-1 and 5-1-1 rule doesn't always apply. Water breaking doesn't always indicate when to go in either it's definitely a tricky guessing game. I've known people to have their water break and baby is crowing 20 minutes later. Just trust your intuition and listen to your body

My labour started with contractions close together and regular, but they were of course very mild, so timing them was absolutely useless and it also keeps you in the "thinking" part of your brain. Birth is a very primal thing and you kind of need to shut off that part of your brain, close your eyes, and tune into your body to get the oxytocin flowing rather than worrying about timers and apps, which can inhibit it.
I ended up giving up on the timer instinctively very early on and we decided to head to the hospital when I was no longer able to talk through contractions, which I'd say was perfect. Hospital was a 20 minute drive away and I went pretty much straight into the birth pool once I got there.

My best advice would be to ignore the timer, or at least ask your partner to do that so you just have to focus on yourself. If you go too early, you run the risk of stalling the labour, so you want to go when you can see the contractions are properly established

thank you!

I labored at home. Got to birth center at 9cm dilated. I went in when I couldn’t take the contractions anymore. I was timing them and they were growing closer and closer.

Avatar

oh wow okay I’ll keep that in mind

Honestly you kinda know when it’s time.
I did majority of my second labor at home and I went to the hospital too soon and got sent back home and then I accidentally waited too long and got there 8cm and 9cm when I got to the room. I knew when it was time to go, it feels like the baby gunna like come out 😂😂😂
By the time I actually left I felt like it was too late (luckily it wasn’t)

I had a really weird labor where none of the rules applied. My water never broke, I had contractions one minute apart a majority of my 35 hour labor! I had back labor too, so they felt soooo intense. We went in after 7 hours, was there two hours, was sent home at 4cm dilated, returned 8 hours later at 7cm…. Still had hourrrrrrs left.

All that to say, it’s really hard to tell when to go in but if it’s your first, it’s rarely ever too late 😅

it’s my second but I was induced with my first

With my 2nd, I had my mom pick up my son. And labored at home for 3/4 hours but I woke up and I was already 5 mins apart when I was told to go in at 7-9 mins apart so I was really confused. I waited to long and my husband was being too chill about it since our first took 34 hours of labor until he came

I think the plan is the same with my OB again. If water breaks, go to the hospital. Laboring 7-9 minutes apart for 1 hour, go to the hospital.

She mentioned last time that my cervix was soft and that I will labor quickly. On my 3rd and will hopefully be checked soon how everything is going

Avatar

Kind of depends. I've labored at home twice as long as I could until I couldn't take it anymore. And arrived at hospital pushing both times.

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Would you bring 9 week old to a family party of 35+ people?

These are also people who will want to pass the baby around and get a turn to hold him. He just got his 2 month shots two days ago

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Scan needed at 33 weeks

Hi ladies! I just had a midwife appointment (I am 33+5)..the midwife was different to my usual midwife. She's requested I have a scan within 72 hours as she said baby is measuring a little small, however, she did say that it's likely nothing to worry about and it's probably just her measuring me a bit different to my usual midwife. Has anyone else had this? Am a bit worried although babys heartbeat and movements are completely fine.

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient 😂🥲
