Losing my job.

I think I’m about to lose my job. I made a couple of mistakes but nothing that’s too major and they’re wanting me to have a disciplinary hearing this week for it in which I might lose my job.
My maternity cover is also conveniently starting her training this week and I’m just not sure if they’re trying to find a way not to pay us both.
It is a very small company I work for which makes me think they’d prefer to not have to pay 2 people to do the same job for my last couple of months before I go on maternity leave.
I’m super stressed about the disciplinary hearing and the potential of losing my job (which from their email, seems likely) but don’t really know what I can do about it because I did make some errors.
Any advice on this or how to make a few extra bucks in the 2 months before I was planning to start maternity leave?

How long have you been employed there?

Are you part of a union?

2 years, no union, just a small family run business with 3 employees 👀

If you are only getting SMP and not any additional pay from the company, worth remembering/ reminding them that all businesses can claim back 92% of SMP costs from the government, and small businesses (like the sounds of where you work) can claim 108.5% of the costs. Hope your disciplinary goes ok, take notes and in most cases you also have the right to take a friend or another person if there isn't a union rep option.

If you have over 2 years of continuous service, you have added protections from unfair dismissal.

I appreciate you made some mistakes in your work and you said these aren't major....are these really enough to warrant a disciplinary?

If they fire you, I'm assuming they will do so on the grounds of gross miscinduct or something similar. If you believe the reason they would do this is related to your pregnancy, you could take them to a tribunal.

I know you were looking for how to make money, but I would recommend speaking with Pregnant Then Screwed and Acas about the specifics of your case and seeing what they would advise.

so I would’ve been with them 2 years on the 13th June so not quite 2 years yet!

No, I’ve just written up my own notes to prepare for the hearing and the reasons are pretty petty from them. Having spoken to others around me, they also agree.

Yes, I may need to look into taking them to tribunal if they do decide to dismiss me. It all seems like very convenient timing.

Thanks for your advice!

When exactly is your disciplinary hearing? You can try and stall it until after June 13th so you have the added protections. If it's before then and if they do decide to terminate your employment, you will have no legal basis to defend your case unfortunately.

On an unrelated note, if you get signed off work for sickness related to pregnancy, this can't be used against you for their absence policy/future disciplinaries......

Best of luck!
