Vaping while breastfeeding

My baby is almost 3 months old I got a vape because I just love nicotine. I love the calmness it brings me. I know you shouldn’t vape while breastfeeding, but I just can’t seem to quit. I need advice on quitting and to really know how bad vaping is while breastfeeding?

Vaping gets into ur breast milk and can get ur baby hooked on nicotine. So when u quit he will experience nicotine withdraws. I watched my cousin go through it and she had to watch her baby go thru it to. Not a pleasant experience. If u need to car even tho I still wouldn’t recommend it please get the nicotine free ones so u at least dont have to worry about them getting hooked on nicotine

If you’re in the uk then I think the NHS smoke line can give advice. It’s definitely not good for your baby though, could you replace it with some better habit to help you? I believe it increases SIDS risk too

The nicotine is what affects the baby badly. I know Vape is smokeless, but it's not just the smoke. It's the nicotine and the carcinogenic properties of the vape juice ingredients. I'd advise you to quit. As hard as it is. Even if you quit breastfeeding and say go to formula. There are new studies showing the vapor leaves trace amounts in clothing, etc. For your baby and overall health quit. You are worth more than a temporary feeling, and so is your baby.

“the pattern that continues today, will continue tomorrow” is the mantra i used to quit. do you seriously want to vape for the rest of your life? do you want your child to vape? i know it’s harder in the moment but doing hard things is what makes you stronger and more resilient. raise strong children by being a strong adult. you can do this, there’s many ways to do it so you just need to find out wha works for you
my recommendation is replace the habit. when you go to hit your vape, instead take a sip of water, go outside, listen to a podcast, have some fruit. the reason the nicotine makes you calm is because is flooding your nervous system with dopamine. long lasting effects of that is you not being able to produce dopamine the same. it’ll be harder to bond with your child. you’ll get more irritated. it’ll get harder to think clearly. you’ll eventually need more to have the same effect.
thats just the surface of it all and doesn’t even touch on the physical affects.

I agree with Janni, if you really can't quit smoking, I think it would be better to formula feed your baby rather than getting the baby hooked onto the nicotine in your breastmilk.

It’s easier said than done, but if you truly think about it from the perspective of “is what I want more important than what my baby needs” than that should give you some kinda leverage in wanting to quit. However, I do agree with the other ladies too, it’s not safe— maybe formula feeding your baby is best for now until you’re able to get more of a handle on it.
