Diagnosed today - questions please

Hi all. Had my GTT test done today and it has come back as abnormal on the post glucose reading at 8.6. I am very surprised as I’ve been wearing a CGM for the last 4/5 days and my BS levels never go above 6, even after a lot of carbs/ sugars. (I tested it out really to see what they did). This might be a stupid question but my husband is type 1 diabetic and (obviously) we aren’t blood related but could this impact on baby? In terms of whether baby is diabetic? This is second baby and no problems or GD in first pregnancy. I also felt very stressed at the hospital today and wonder if the adrenaline/ stress caused my blood sugars to stay elevated? As they’ve never gone to 8 before! Anyway apologies for all questions, haven’t seen any of the diabetic team yet as only had the call this afternoon. Any advice appreciated 😊

Hey! I got my diagnosis last week and I know it’s a horrible shock - I also had an uneventful first pregnancy. I have been crying on and off for days so I totally get you.

So no, your husband won’t have affected anything - this is a fight between the placenta and your body and you e got unlucky.

I’m afraid the CGM wont help. The GTT is a deliberate overload - more glucose than you’re ever likely to have in one go. But my midwife told me it’s a test of how your body copes, and if it’s over the value, it means your body is struggling. Since I’ve been finger pricking my values have all been under 6 except 1, and most in the 4s, low 5s. But apparently you are likely to get worse as you go on so it’s good to get the support and monitoring now. I got an 8.2 in the test and nothing like it since.

I’m sorry, it’s a rubbish diagnosis! But there is so much help available - it’s the most supported I’ve felt so far in pregnancy.
