UWS is great! Live here with my two kids, riverside drive is beautiful, access to riverside park, where there are tons of great playgrounds or Central Park. Many families live uptown. UES is similar but imo riverside park is nicer and has more playgrounds than the east river (Central Park is great regardless of on east or west side). Tribeca has a lot of families too but streets are narrower and is far from the park- we lived in Chelsea for a bit and find the UWS to be more our speed for all the things you mentioned

Agree with Mackenzie. I moved from Chelsea to UWS. Lots of families in the UWS and lots of options for walks and playgrounds. Amsterdam and Columbus are where all of the restaurants and cafes are and are closer to Central Park. West End is much more quiet but closer to the Hudson River and Riverside Park. Only challenge in moving from LA is that most places in the UWS tend to be older buildings especially on West End and you generally have the window AC unit and not centralized AC. Additionally it can also be challenging and expensive to find in unit washer dryer.
