38.6• fever in heatwave

My 1y old hasn’t been drinking too much even when it’s encouraged and has been a bit sleepy today and her skin is hot to touch…
When she’s been awake she’s been walking around playing, giggling and talking but I felt something was definitely wrong…

Just done her temperature and it’s 38.6•
I feel like such a bad mum as I could’ve done something about her earlier today but I didn’t even though I felt like something was definitely not quite right…
I have just given some calpol and she’s falling straight to sleep but I’m now worried that she could have an infection and also be dehydrated! First thing in the morning I think a hospital trip is going to be the answer I just hope this calpol settles the fever a little🤏🏼

Instead of going straight to hospital see how she is through night and ring 111 in the morning as they will give you advice on what to do x

yep I think that’s the plan, keep her home and if anything I can hopefully get an out of hours appointment at the hospital in the morning instead of waiting in ER for hours especially in such hot weather and her not being too well…

I gave one dose of calpol when I wrote this statement then when she woke roughly 3am I gave her another bottle of milk to up her fluids and she took it getting her fluids upto 21oz instead of 16🤷🏻‍♀️ she has seemed okay throughout the night and when she woke briefly a few mins ago I took her temp and it’s down to 36.3 thank goodness…
She’s very sleepy though but she will be tired and hasn’t had calpol since her vaccines so I think that’s hit her too.
I haven’t given another calpol I’m yet I am going to see what she is like when she wakes up, hopefully her body doesn’t spike up that fever again when awake x

Oh good. If she’s taking her milk then that’s a good sign. If you’re worried there’s nothing wrong with giving 111 a call just for a bit of advice and see what they say. Fingers crossed her fever doesn’t come back again. Keep her well hydrated as it’s going to be hot again today x
