Babies under 6 months have very sensitive skin and may absorb sunscreen chemicals more easily.
At 6 months and older: You can start using baby-safe sunscreen more regularly.
Best option: Avoid sunscreen. Keep baby in the shade and use protective clothing
Blue Lizard is great because it’s mineral-based, fragrance-free, and water-resistant.
La Roche-Posay feels a bit lighter and smoother going on the skin. It’s also dermatologist-recommended
Both are excellent for sensitive baby skin

LO is 7 months and we’ve been using Mustela spray sunscreen since he was 5. On it says that is suitable from birth

Friend of mine uses Avene

I took my baby for her 8 week jabs this week and asked the GP about sunscreen protection given the heatwave and having already booked to go away. I was conscious all sunscreens say 6+ months and wanted to check whether anything was suitable for under this age. I was told by the GP to put sun cream on her at this age and use Childs Farm factor 50 + and keep her in the shade.

I agree with @Joanne . My son has sensitive skin and I was scared to use sunscreen on him. I did lots of research and went with la roche posay and it's been amazing so far no issues. It's light and easy to apply.

We use child's farm

We use boots baby soltan but only after 6m strictly

Honestly, your baby is so close to 6 months I think it will make no difference putting it on now vs a few weeks time. Its a guideline so its not like they turn 6 months and suddenly its safe. There’s always a bit of give and take.
Also, generally you should keep baby in the shade but in times where it’s very difficult to do so, surely it’s better to put some suncream on them instead of them burning. Burning is much worse for a babies skin that a tiny bit of chemicals that may get absorbed into their skin. Especially as in a few weeks time they will be 6 months.

I’ve always used La Roche Posay x

Check out the EWG list of approved sunscreens! We use Think Baby or Mustela or Babo because they dont have the chemicals that others do and are safe for babies.
The bigger issue is not that their skin absorbs the sunscreen but that they dehydrate really fast. And let's be honest sun right now cant always be avoided. Better to have a safe sunscreen on baby than a sunburnt baby!!
5.5 months vs 6 months...youre fine.
