My little one is nearly 2 and still is terrified of having his hair cut at a barbers and his hair is getting so long.. I’ve trimmed it myself a few times with scissors but it takes so long and super hard with him moving constant. Has anyone got tips or used one of these before? Are they any good??

It really depends on what style you are looking for yes trimming with scissors ✂️ takes a lot of time. You could do clipper over comb but that is also hard. Watch some barber videos online. I actually have my cosmetology license but never worked in a salon. I know the concept of cutting hair and I just do clippers short of the sides and trim the top with scissors. I put him in the highchair and put on his favorite show. He does pretty good with it. And my child is very high energy and hates to sit.

honestly at this rate I think I would use clippers all over 😂 He hates it but think clippers would be quicker and easier than scissors 🥴

Clippers all over would 100% be quicker than trying to scissor cut it all, but it’s usually the sound/feel of the clippers that scares them. Have you tried getting a home hairdresser to come to your house so he’s in his own familiar environment, then you’ll also be able to offer distractions etc as it won’t be you doing the cutting.

Try finding something to do that distracts them during it. My son hated getting his hair cut (by me) until we cut it outside so the birds can have the hair we cut off.
I have cut while he is eating or even listening to his favorite song/movie.

If you want to take him to a barber try doing a lot of pretend play about going to the barbers , do the whole routine from pretending to get in the car and driving there to the actual hair cutting and celebrate him getting a fake haircut like he won gold at the Olympics
I’d also give him fair warning the day before you go to the barbers “hey we’re going to the barbers tomorrow and he’s going to be so careful and nice and clean up your hair (the word cut might be putting him off ) and remind him that he’ll be so safe and you’ll be there
Continue to give intermittent reminders and try to go as early in the morning as you can and soothe any scared feelings as they pop up, maybe bring a preferred activity like the tablet he doesn’t normally get to watch or something and do something fun after the barbers like the park or whatever else you do that he loves

I cut my boys and my Hubbys and my hair myself, but I have a professional razor not a baby one. Just a normal one. If you are going to buy a razor I’d just get a normal one. For me I use the Brad Mondo butterfly tutorial and for him, I watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials

My now 3 year old was the same when I started taking him to get his hair cut but I done some research on barbers around my area and found one that was known to cut SEN children and adults hair so knew they’d be more patient with him and eventually he wasn’t so bad after a few visits

So my son was ok with having his hair cut until he went to the barbers and the guy took trimmers to him which freaked him out no end so I just use scissors as I don't mind it a bit longer.

yes it is. I like to give my kiddo a style apply that’s why I do it the way I do. I do his hair like daddy. lol 😂 but I have used like a 4 on the sides and the longest size 8 on the top and blended the sides. Or you can just use like a 4 all over if you want it short.
