We had the 8 week check up on Wednesday for my son and the doctor told me that he has a hernia and he was going send a referral to the hospital. I did some research from information provided and its either inguinal hernias or hydroceles. I was wondering if anyone on here have been in this situation and could tell me how long it took for their referral to come through and how long it took for treatment TIA.

So my son got a hernia after having surgery because he had a chest infection from coughing so much, which led to him getting a hernia. From referral to him having it done was nearly a year and this was done. You need to keep on at them!

My son had one and I was told to leave it because it’s harmless (his was a greyish colour) and was told it will go by its self. Personally I’d call the health visitor and get a second opinion because if you can avoid surgery I would. My son’s hernia has completely gone now by its self and is what I’d consider a normal belly button, took around two months. Don’t poke it or push it in. Obviously I can’t see your babies but that’s why I’d give hv a call because they are medically trained on this more so than doctors believe it or not. Surgery can cause more damage if unnecessary. Honestly though it did freak me out a bit especially when I was looking at surgery etc.

My son had a hernia too! It went away by the time he was 3 months.

My son has a hydrocele and is 15 months but still not gone. They say to leave until the age of 2 as they can go by themselves
