This is my first time breastfeeding and I wasn’t aware I needed to supplement my newborn with vitamin D drops. He’s 10 weeks old now, but I hope he’ll be okay. The box says not to administer directly into infant’s mouth, but I don’t bottle feed at all. It says to mix into formula or breast milk. I thought I could put a drop on the breast, can anyone let me know if that would be okay?
Thank you so much! 💕

It depends on the brand you have (I think). The one we use is 1 drop per day, and the doctor said I can drop it on my nipple or into her mouth right before/during nursing. Into the mouth is easier. When I try to put on nipple then latch her, it makes a mess.

Yeah I personally do it directly on my nipple in the morning right before I nurse. The pediatrician just told me to try and stay consistent with administering it at roughly the same time everyday. So either morning afternoon or night.

You can administer directly into baby mouth or on you nipple before you nurse baby.

The kind we have I can administer 1ml either directly into his mouth or in a bottle. We switch between the two. As another mama said just try to be consistent with giving it around the same time everyday! If your baby was premature you may want to inquire about supplementing iron.

It was way too difficult for me to remember these drops. My pediatrician said 5000 UI of Vit D taken by mom will pass enough to baby. It was way easier to take the vitamin with my post natal vitamin than to give it to my kiddo.

whatever you’re comfortable with! I found solace in that other countries don’t actually do vitamin d supplementation. There is some literature that supports the mom passing to baby via her milk, but because it’s so common to have vitamin d deficiency, supplementation is necessary. 5k UI is more than 5x you need based on institute of medicine.
