Did you shower whilst in hospital?

Did you shower whilst in the hospital?

I ask because with my first, I had a vaginal birth, I went home the next day. I didn’t shower but did use wipes. I’m not sure why, I think I was just desperate to go home and felt I could wait until going home.

I’m having a c section this time. Should I take my own towel and body wash etc to have a shower in the hospital?

I had a shower at the hospital the day after my c-section once I could stand up on my own.. mine was an emergency c section so they provided me with basic hygiene products since I didn't have anything with me

I showered once my anaesthetic wore off - so like 4-5 hours after. My nurse actually encouraged me to do it and I felt so good for it. More refreshed not smelly and it enabled me to get on my feet

I was induced, was in hospital 3 days before having an emergency section so I showered each day before having her

The nurses will encourage you to have one. It can be scary and nerve wracking but you will likely feel better afterwards. Pack some mini toiletries that you like!

I was in hospital for 2 days after and I was never once asked or told to shower, in fact the opposite

I used cleansing wipes the first day post op because I couldn’t stand long enough to shower and showered the second day post op.

I had an emergency section and showered about 4 hours after baby was born. Midwife helped me walk to the bathroom and took catheter out when I was sat on the shower chair. Partner then helped me shower and I honestly felt SO much better for it. I ended up using the hospital towels for that shower and kept my own fresh for the shower in hospital the following day (my midwives advice ☺️)

I’ve showered many times in the hospital and they can give you a couple towels if you ask! Even little shower products like shower gel.

I’ve spent 4 weeks in hospital once so I had many showers there 😅 plus other hospital stays too

I was in the hospital for 2 days being induced before I had my c-section on the third day. By the fourth day I just felt so stinky and sweaty and I needed a shower, but knew I was going to be in that night as well so I ended up having one with the help of my mum lol. I bought the minis that you take on holiday with you, and then got a new towel but definitely shouldve washed the towel a few more times as it left fluff all over me and stuck to the tape holding down my wound vac!

I tried to but the showers were crap on my wards so it wasn’t very successful. One was a dribble and one didn’t go warm 😬

I was in four days so I did shower the day after, I really felt I needed it, I took my own towel because theirs were rough x

I was in the hospital for 4 days. Def the next morning after birth I felt crusty and just needed to shower. I had brought my shower shoes and leave in conditioner and I'm glad I did.

Avatar

I showered about 8 hours post op. I didn't bring my own things as my section was unplanned, but I would definitely bring your own!

Avatar

I had a shower about an hour after having both my babies but I did have straightforward births. I took my own shower gel and towel

I was in hospital for 4 days. I showered the night before my csection. Then I left 24hrs after my csection and waited a few days after being home to shower. I just didn't feel up to it.

I was in the hospital for 5 days. Preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. They checked on me every hour. 65.5 hours total including labor and pushing. My water broke on its own 16 hours before delivery. We used the shower wipes mostly. I don’t remember actually taking a shower. I might have done a body rinse after birth… but I totally don’t remember 🤣 I remember taking a shower as soon as I got home because somehow had both diarrhea and was vomiting while in the shower … as my whole family was over to welcome us home. I couldn’t even eat the celebration meal they prepared. No idea why my brain hangs onto that memory 😅

Avatar

Completely up to you. I waited until I got home to shower. I could barely stand and had been ill with complications and the midwives actually said to me to avoid the hospital shower as the room was so hot and didn't want me to pass out 🤣

Avatar

Thanks everyone! I will take a towel and some shower wash with me. I think I’m just assuming/ hoping I will be in for 24 hours but a lot of you have kindly mentioned that you stayed in longer so will pack in the event I’ll be in longer! X

I was there for a week and a half after having my baby. First 3 days in a medical coma and then they slowly woke me up. 3 days after that I took a shower and I had my own body wash but used the towels they gave me.

Avatar

I showered with both of mine. First was an induced vaginal birth I showered after around an hour then in clean PJs and snuggled for the rest of the day. With second baby she was an emergency section I didn’t shower that evening but did the next evening so around 24hrs later. The midwives encouraged it before I went home because they said it’s common to get dizzy plus the bathrooms are bigger and I could sit down in a stool so they said if I found it hard at home getting in the bath (our shower is in a bath) then I would be glad of doing it there. They were right.

I took my own towel and toiletries and glad I did as was in hospital 10 days. I will say, I didn't use my own towel though, I just used the hospitals as otherwise my partner would have to wash it each night and at least you can just put the hospitals straight in their caddy to be washed.

Yes I had a shower the next morning. You feel quite gross from blood pooling in bed. It’s not the same as vaginal birth because you’re sat in the blood for a while whilst still got the catheter in. I took my own towel but they did give me some to use.

Although that’s a gross experience, the c-section itself was amazing, so surreal. Best experience of our lives❤️

I showered at the hospital before going home

I showered on day 3 or so.. I was there for about 5 days and they wanted the bandage off and its much easier to get off in the shower

Avatar

My first pregnancy, I’m definitely planning on showering at the hospital wether it’s a c section or vaginal birth, I can’t stand even body odor or feeling sticky and not taking a shower immediately when I can , I usually shower twice a day already .

Avatar

I’ve had 2 c-sections and have never showered in hospital. I was in for a day both times. With my 2nd, I couldn’t shower for 7-8 days even if I had wanted to, being as I had a vacuum sealed bandage with a battery pack.

But I just didn’t want to. I hate hospitals and everything to do with them.

Avatar

I showered around 10 hours after, just take non fragrance wash and you will need someone to help you wash & in and out on the bath tub! I also took my own towel xx

Avatar

Yes, I think two days later, just couldn’t take it anymore not to shower! I managed by myself, hated being in hospital for so long.
