Mirtazapine and ADHD/Anxiety

I have ADHD and suffer from anxiety, but I’m unmedicated. I feel ALOT of things I’m going through right now is heavily linked to my ADHD. Long story short, I spoke to my GP about these things, and he prescribed me depression medication and stated what I described isn’t linked to ADHD, but sounds more of depression and I should take Mirtazapine for 2 weeks and come back with how it’s been working.
I was prescribed sertraline a few years ago which made me numb and I couldn’t recognise myself, that’s how I even got my ADHD diagnosis. I’m telling him I don’t feel comfortable taking depression medication, but he says it’s what I need.
Does anyone share a similar situation or could at least tell me their experience with Mirtazapine?

I take Mirtazapine for insomnia associated with my depression and I swear it makes me sleep like a log. I find it to be pretty sedatative, so I can't imagine taking it during the day.

That part doesn’t sound too bad! But what about co-sleeping and baby waking up first? Would I be able to keep her safe and tend to her when needed?

Yeah I have this issue every time I go to get help with my ADHD. I've stopped trying. Antidepressants make me insane, so I stay far away from them :/ good luck, girl!!

Im sorry you weren't heard by your gp. Can you get referred to a psychiatrist? Plus It's not safe to take a sedative if you co sleep.

I don’t know what else to say to these people at this point! I’m losing my mind trying to figure it out.
Also yes, thank you, I did think that wouldn’t be the best of ideas.

My oh took this for 2 weeks (he’s in the process of being diagnosed with adhd) you get put on a starter dose which will make you sleepy. My husband was very sleepy for those 2 weeks and couldn’t really do anything. He then got put on a higher dose and the sedative effects lessened and he could function again (just drowsy in the morning)

He takes it about 9pm so it doesn’t impact his morning. They are weaning him off it now though as it didn’t make him feel any better just sedated and they have moved onto ecitalopram.

As someone who is late diagnosed autistic/adhd… is there a chance that you are in autistic burnout- cuz that presents as depression but is treated differently and it’s more common to have both adhd with being autistic than it is just to have adhd by itself. I mean i didn’t realize I am autistic until I was 32. And i thought i just had bad anxiety and depression. I took Prozac and I felt like a zombie. Understanding my autism is what helped a lot.

You also can’t co-sleep while on Mirazapine.

I do the evening routine and night wakings when he’s on it as he just sleeps through.

My psychologist taught me thay a lot of times those of us with adhd are told we have depression when that's not actually the case. I started taking concerta and it completely resolved my depression and anxiety without making me numb. The symptoms of adhd, missed deadlines the stress of forcing my brain to do what needed to be done. The feelings of failure when I forget something. My psychologist called it learned helplessness. This idea of Ive given everything I have and I'm still not enough. That often looks like depression from the outside because it mimics the hopelessness. And the constant worry about being about to screw up looks like anxiety. If depression medications haven't worked in the past and this doesnt work now it might be work looking into medication for the adhd. The first day I took my concerta I emptied the dishwasher... just emptied, didn't get distracted just did it and then I cried.
