Hello! I am trying to conceive for the first time and I am very nervous about trying to manage my chronic migraines once pregnant. Did anyone here take triptans during pregnancy? My neurologist said she would be comfortable with me taking a triptan up to twice a week during pregnancy, but since there isn’t much research, it makes me nervous. I would love to hear from anyone else who managed chronic migraines during pregnancy and if they safely took triptans with no effect on the baby? Thank you!

Yes, I took Sumitriptan with my first and had a successful pregnancy. My midwife and doctor okayed it. I didnt take them all the time, only when entirely necessary

Not quite what you asked but before I TTC my GP told me to go cold turkey on sumatriptan as I was taking them at least every other day. The first couple of days were rough, and it took me years to conceive, but I can count on 1 hand the amount of migraines I’ve had since then. This is just my experience of course! I do think I took 1 sumatriptan during pregnancy but no issues from that

I took several times in first trimester. Not quite chronic migraines but definitely got through at least a pack (6 tablets) in first trimester. I think they recommend not taking frequently anyway as it can actually start to cause headaches? But you’ll know more about this in terms of how chronic migraine is managed

I took rizatriptan in my second pregnancy up until about 18 weeks when I finally stopped getting migraines (think they stopped around 13 weeks with my first but managed to avoid triptans then as it was easier to take to my bed!)
Baby is absolutely fine - I had him 1 day early weighing 9lb4oz and he’s 6 months now.

My migraine frequency increased my first trimester they were brutal! My dr said it was fine to take my rizatriptan and my daughter is perfectly healthy (she is 2.5 now)

My first pregnancy (2021-22) i did nothing. It was soooo miserable😩😩
Last summer my neurologist and i talked about updated treatment options that have recently been found to be safe during pregnancy. Sumatriptan and eletriptan are both okay. I take eletriptan but have tried to use it sparingly still. Its better on the liver than tylenol at least😅
For preventative i started botox last august because its safe during pregnancy! Idk how it will combat those 3rd trimester hormone migraines but i definitely find it helpful so far.

I have had to take to my rizatriptan this first trimester my neurologist and OB okayed it. And the women’s clinic pharmacist has as well.
