My son has always been a terrible sleeper. He’s now 10 months, he wakes through the night and has short naps and his routine is all over the place because of either short 30 minute naps, early wakes or falling asleep in the car. He’s also still on 4-5 bottles as well as 3 solid meals as he doesn’t drink much, only 100-120 ml at a time and they are at different times as he won’t be hungry when I think he will. I’ve spent so many months being reluctant with plans because of his routine and feeling like it’s easier to cancel than mess up his routine but it seems pointless anyway as it doesn’t solve anything for long. I have no idea how to plan life and do activities or go out when his routine is so sensitive and changes so quickly. I’m due to go back to work in a week and have no idea how we will cope with nursery and leaving the house early. I’m starting a new job and so worried about being late or being exhausted and making mistakes. Am I doing something wrong? How do I sort out his routine? I feel like I cant do anything sometimes because of the exhaustion or because I don’t want to risk messing his routine up which is barely a routine anyway. Feel like I’m failing as it seems everyone else has it all managed but if I’m honest I’ve spent my entire maternity leave obsessing over it and I’ve still not managed.

Hey mama, this sounds incredibly challenging for many reasons . So many can relate to feeling like their sleep becomes the focal point and a huge source of stress. Im the world's first nurture neuroscience practitioner which includes certification as an infant sleep consultant. I would be more than happy to talk on the phone to see how i can help you and if you think ill be a good fit for your family! I only advocate for fully responsive methods (zero sleep training!!!). I take temperament into account hugely too as well as sensory needs and its impact on sleep. You can book a free no obligation 15 min call here 💜

And i promise you are not alone. Feeling everyone else has it all managed is part of human nature to compare. We are often our own biggest critics too , you are not failing mama 💜💜💜

This is completely normal, each baby is different and there's no wonder "cure" or miracle.
My daughter was exactly the same, by 12 months a noticeable change and then again a huge change at 14 months which was good as i returned to work by then!

If you over think it, and over analyse it makes it a lot lot worse to accept. As i wrote to another poster, mums on their 2nd and 3rd told me this and they were right!
