My little girl (4 weeks old) is scheduled for a tongue tie release next week, but I’m nervous reading some comments about it not having helped, growing back, being a traumatic procedure for babies, difficult/painful exercises, etc. so I’m worrying that it won’t be worth putting her through. Looking to hear from others about their experiences and whether they felt it was worth it? Did it help?
Baby is currently breastfeeding with 1-2 top-ups a day. I was told the positioning and latch are good, TT not as obvious but there is restriction with pulling tissue down/ maintaining suction. Baby is feeding every 5-15 minutes for weeks now (except for night time), lots of clicking and lip blisters, very fussy on breast, tented mouth, cracked and sore nipples.
Thank you!

So worth it!!! I had my babies done at 7 weeks. She cried I breastfed her immediately. She didn’t cry again, literally hardly any blood. She feeds SO well now. No regrets, I was told if I didn’t do it we’d have struggled with weaning because she couldn’t swallow properly

My son had it done when he was 4 days old. They will show you how to massage it after to stop it from re attaching. It’s takes seconds! They cry for a minute until you start feeding.

Ehhhh I’m half and half I feel like it did help a little she is not clicking as much now but she still has a shallow latch but I do feel like she’s getting milk better now. Still fusses at times but not as much and still gets blisters every now and then…
The aftercare is the worst having to do the stretches constantly but once I was done and picked her up she was fine. She had both tongue and lip tho so it was double the stretches…

So so worth it. My little boy had his fone at 8 weeks and his jaw literally moved from the tension being released. His body relaxed and he was so much more comfortable and happy and aside from the feeding symptoms there are lots more things that a tongue tie could potentially affect that you wouldn't know until further down the line. Our feeding took a couple of days and he was relearning to latch with such a different range of movement but we never looked back

There's not really any way to know if it's going to help, everyone is different, and it's not like you can go back and see what things would've been like with or without it. My son apparently had a 100% tongue tie, I wasn't experiencing any pain but he was latching and unlatching a lot. I was told if I didn't get it released he would've had a speech impediment, and then later after I'd had it done another midwife said the research around that is a bit questionable so he probably wouldn't have 🤦🏻♀️
I didn't notice any difference in his feeding at all, but he did gradually stop latching and unlatching, I'm talking gradually over like a month or two so who knows if that would've just happened anyway
But then some people notice a change immediately, so there's not really any way of knowing what's going to happen without doing it unfortunately

As for the procedure, it's not nice to see, but it's over quickly. He was crying a lot for about 30 minutes and unfortunately refused to feed which is what usually helps, then fell asleep probably out of exhaustion. After that he was feeling a bit sorry for himself for about a day maybe 2 I think. Calpol helped
I do think it's worth doing if you are experiencing issues, but it may or may not help. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻

Initially my baby was struggling to gain weight. Releasing her tongue tie improved her suckling and swallowing enormously. I strongly recommend it 😊 The pain only seems to last for a few seconds.

It only hurt for a really short time, I put her straight on the breast and she had a small amount of blood and that was it.
Her main problem was how long she was feeding for. She would feed for 45/hour or longer, the time she fed reduced after she had the tongue tie cut.
The exercises never seemed to bother her and there were never any issues.

Made a world of a difference and meant we're able to still be BF at 13 months! He cried during the procedure but as soon as I fed him he settled and was totally fine.

Totally worth it! It’s no more traumatic than their vaccinations, he stopped crying as soon as he was on the boob after and I’m SO glad we had it done (on NHS)

We had to go 13 weeks and pay privately as my little girls was missed by multiple NHS workers til we saw a specialist but we were over the threshold in our trust when diagnosed.
It was absolutely worth it, night and day difference to feeding (for us both), improved growth and weight gain, and her general happiness (it was causing a lot of tension that our osteo picked up on).
It is horrid immediately after so if you go ahead be prepared for that, but they will settle very quickly.
I breastfed til 16m which I absolutely would not have been able to do without TT release.
