My little one is predominantly breast fed, she does however take 1 bottle of formula at night before bed. Recently, we’ve noticed she isn’t doing the toilet daily anymore, she will stretch to three days and I notice she’s straining and very windy. When she was born she would do the toilet about 4 times a day - little and often, now it’s not as much but when it does happen it’s a poonami!
Very strange too as breast milk normally makes them 💩 quite easily my midwife said. Any thoughts welcome x 💭

I literally had to do an A&E visit with my little girl 5 weeks old who hasn’t had a poo now for 4 days also breastfed. Always poops around 4 times a day usually. The consultant said that at around 5-7 weeks we stop producing a natural laxative in our breast milk that helps them poo, this combined with growth spurts where they absorb more nutrients from what they’re eating sometimes can cause babies to hold it in for around 10 days during this period. Mine is also presenting as wriggly and uncomfortable.
She mentioned if your little one has a very hard distended tummy that is almost so distended it’s shiny that’s when to worry. As well as any discoloured vomit that isn’t just milky in colour.

omg thank you🙏 tummy still nice and soft and no vomit issues! 10 days is wild though - poor babies! Xx

My girl is the same. And the advice from the health visitor was as above. If they are generally well, feeding well, wet nappies, then they can go up to 10 days. But if the tummy is distended / swollen then to see the doctor. We have our 6 week check tomorrow and it will have been about 7 days since she went so I’m going to bring it up with him.
When she went last time I was an absolute poonami, it just kept coming and coming. Like pooing 7 times in one go.

funnily enough it’s my 6 week check tomorrow too and was going to raise. Surely it must be uncomfortable for them! Xx😭

sometimes she seems uncomfortable and like she is straining. And cries out very occasionally. But she isnt crying all the time etc. she is still passing wind 💨

Try Kendamil comfort drops (can get them next day on Amazon) my little one was similar and now goes at least once a day, usually more. You literally put 5 drops once a day in the bottle, on a spoon, or directly into their mouth. We also found Colief drops good! X
