I had no idea! Is this a widespread feeling or just a few? Either way I wouldn’t use it - just wondering!

Why would it be offensive?

I know a lot of people with that as a last name. Why would it be offensive?

Why would it be offensive ? It means priest in Hebrew !
From what I understand it is a sacred religious title. As a last name it refers to the descendants of priests who served in the Temple of Jerusalem. It seems that’s it’d be similar to a non-Catholic person naming their baby Pope

I think maybe the way you worded this confused people. Like the name itself is offensive versus asking if it’s culturally inappropriate or offensive for non Jewish folks to name their kids cohen. Just guessing btw lol

Not Jewish here, & my grandmother's maiden name is Coen, it's Irish Gaelic, and I considered it for a sons name but never had a boy.

It’s also an Aboriginal name (Aussie here). Fairly common name here

I love this name too but been put off by all the controversy. Jessie dreambabynames just did a video on it on TikTok and the comments are useful https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNdVLBJP2/
