Rod induction by choice

Hey guys, since 35 weeks I have been “flirting with high blood pressure” as my doctor likes to say but as I’ve been able to keep it under 140/90 without meds I am currently just being monitored weekly and am still currently allowed to have a water birth, as I’m technically low risk.

However, I’m worried that if I leave it too late I run the risk of blood pressure increasing and having both the water birth taken away from me. And if I’m honestly I’m so unbelievably done with being pregnant I just want her here now.

I’m 39 weeks next week, am booked in for a sweep and have been debating asking to book in an induction with rods.

Has anyone had rods and had success at 39 weeks?

Has anyone had rods by choice and if not work and then been able to refuse any other induction methods?

I want to give it a go but I want to be able to say no to trying anything else if it doesn’t work. Since it would be by choice, I’m wondering if that’s a possibility (providing my waters don’t break of course).

I have my midwife app tomorrow anyway but thought it worth asking if anyone’s had experience with the above.

I was induced at 39 weeks due to big baby and tbh I was done so accepted it had 2 rounds of rods and my cervix did widen for them to break my waters however by the time I got to delivery suite my cervix had shrunk again xx I then went on to have the gel and my waters broke themselves xx I think why you start the induction you have to have baby by the end of it don’t count me on it 🤦🏼‍♀️I was going to go for C-section as the gel wasn’t doing anything and was going to confirm it int he morning then my waters broke themselves xx

Yeah I had the rods, found them very painful and same thing as soon as there was space on the ward to break my waters I had gone back to cervix being closed again, I asked for a c section at that point and had that the next day. I think once interventions have started it's unlikely they will allow the water birth but don't quote me on it, just my experience. They seem so intent on inductions these days, I speak to so few people who go into labour naturally

For anyone who wasn’t sure, you can have a water birth with the rods or even if you have high blood pressure (dependant on the seriousness of it) though it did have to be the pool room on the ward and not the birth centre.

I was given a pool room, was going to have the rods but I was 2cm dilated already, so they went ahead and broke my water and I went into labour within 10 minutes.

During the labour my blood pressure rose, this did put a halt on the use of the pool until they could get it under control, which they did with medication. Once it was controlled I was allowed to use the pool.

The irony is after being so adamant that I wanted a water birth, I didn’t even dip a toe into it in the end 🤣 the pain got too much and I decided to opt for an epidural before it got too late and sacked off the pool 🙈🙈
