My LB is 3 years old and has been going to nursery since before he was 1. However recently there’s a boy in his class who hits himself when he’s angry. My son is now doing that. Any time he’s angry or hurts himself or has a tantrum, he really punches his face. He has now started punching me or his dad too. He’s never been like this before. He’s like a different child. I’ve done everything, time out, distractions, being calm etc but he’s not stopping.
I now dread every day. I am literally living hour by hour.
Even when we were out for a walk, he hurt his finger and started punching himself. But he wouldn’t stop so I picked him up and he just started punching me.
Is this something I need to take him to the doctor over? Is this normal?
I’m really struggling so any advice is welcomed x

Over an hour to calm down?? Yes, definitely take him to a doctor to check on him

Oh okay, i would seek a professional opinion anyway

I found the ‘good inside’ app really helpful for tantrums and am moving on to other sections of the app. I’ve seen lots of stuff out there but this was the most practical and it also really helped explain what might be going on. It actually also helped me not get so overwhelmed by it. I’m with you though, they do learn some stuff from nursery /school and I think it’s just about figuring how to help them get through it. It does seem that quite a few three year olds are expert tantrumers!! Good luck xx
