Mamas help!
My son will be 3 in a couple of months, and we have been potty training since the beginning of August. For the most part he is pee trained, we still have accidents occasionally but nothing I am concerned about.. but trying to convince him to poop on the potty is impossible it seems.
We have tried singing songs, letting him sit with the tablet, bribing with candy or outings, giving him privacy, you name it we have done it..
At first he used to try to hide when he had to go, and we would follow him and say “oh it looks like your body is telling you you have to poop let’s go sit on the toilet!” And most of the time he would..
That phased out. He would wind up holding it for 2-3 days at a time and then would just poop where ever he was standing and come to me an announce he had gone in his underwear.
This evolved to us letting him be underwear free after a few weeks of him consistently pooping his underwear.. and he just let it fall out right on to the floor 😩 he specifically chooses times where I am busy (nursing my youngest, cooking a meal, cleaning) to go poop. He absolutely prefers having underwear on to go as well, he doesn’t like being free bottomed but it doesn’t seem to make a difference in motivating him to go on the toilet!

Prune packet or pears. They have a lot of fiber. Give him one or the other, see how long it takes before he poops then, the next day do the same thing but try to time it up. If he pooped 30 min later or 2 hours later try to get to the potty around that time. Worked like a charm for some of the kids I nannied for who were very similar.
I don’t know why they really hate the idea of pooping in the potty. Literally, I nannied for lots of kids and about 50% of them went through this. Once they went a couple times it was no problem but the first one or two times they didn’t want to go in the potty. 🤷🏻♀️

My son was the same way! He hated going poop in the potty! He would hide or tell me after he has already gone. Sometimes poopinh is uncomfortable and they don’t seem to like the feeling I’ve noticed that it helped a lot for my son for me to get to his level while on the toilet and ask if he wanted a hug or to hold hands while going poop. We would then count to 3 and push together and make a pushing sound. I think being there and giving the that comfort also helps them relax instead of feeling uncomfortable or anxious about popping. Since then he has realized it’s not so bad and actually better the holding it in. Now he goes freely when he is free bottomed but will tell me when he has bottoms on that he has to go.
