Going back to a demanding job you love after mat leave…

I’m curious to hear stories about women who were in a career they love and work hard in… knowing some adjustments will have to get made post-baby. But curious to hear how you re-enter and what negotiations you make with yourself to make it all work. I know it’s hard — I don’t need to hear those reminders, I’m sooo anxious about it all already haha. But would love to hear like, how long a mat leave you took and how you re-entered (how many days, how did childcare work, what’d your husband or family help with, did you ramp up over time and exactly how, what were the surprises, what felt doable once you were doing it, etc etc). Thanks in advance who anyone who responds!!

Do you have a job where you can do hybrid working?

kinda, yeah. But my position is such that sometimes I may need to go in.

I think you just have to try what you think may work. I can only speak for my experience but I'm happy to share my thoughts and some bits I did.

You can definitely put in a flexible working request, and hopefully your workplace is reasonable. That way you could do a phased return or maybe more working from home.

I put my daughter in a nursery three days a week and worked from home two days. With the 30 free hours that people get now, cost should be a lot lower and you can pay through tax free childcare so the government contributes 20% of the cost.

We don't live super local to family so we had to do it mostly alone but it's doable to be a career woman and a great mum! As you say, it's just hard work x
