Need a toke ASAP

Hey mamas; FTM here! I just had my 6week PP appointment and as expected, PPD has been confirmed. I would like to smoke instead of going straight to medication to see if it helps. Any mothers breastfeeding/breastfed their babies while smoking occasionally? If so, how did you go about it to ensure baby doesn’t get any? Or is it inevitable?

Helllloooo! So..
We are in the same boat. I did a lot of reading of others experiences and reading online that I had come to the conclusion that it’s worth smoking to me, rather than the slew of meds that I would need to get back on. Idk I don’t like thinking how the meds alter my brain and make me feel weird especially when beginning to take them again that I didn’t want my baby to feel that way by any means necessary. People have all sorts of opinions on smoking but I formed my own and decided that’s the route I’m going to go. I’m way less snappier and worrisome and also can relax and actually enjoy my baby and breastfeeding without watching the clock so to me it is worth it. From what I have read there is very minimal traces in breast milk if any. I also took into consideration how people drink alcohol and how much it affects baby. Personally my baby is not affected by me having some drinks and breastfeeding. If it made him fussy or uncomfortable I wouldn’t continue. So I did the

Same thing with smoking. Started out slow and just a couple hits or maybe one to start. Then slowly increased. My baby is a milk hog and also has a sensitive tummy and like I said. Was not affected. That’s just my personal experience though. He is also in the 97th percentile in weight so gaining weight was never an issue and has still not been. They tell me he is a poster child for a happy healthy breastfeeding baby so until a medical professional tells me otherwise or I myself start seeing or noticing any signs of change that weren’t there before, obviously I will stop. Not going to lie though, the first couple of times I did, I had this sense of guilt like I was going to cause him discomfort but was quickly at ease when I saw no effect to him. Hope this helps, as I was spiraling trying to find the same answers too and basically just had to form my own opinion and take the leap. So far so good, I haven’t thought about needing to start any meds since I started smoking again.

And not for nothing, my relationship with my partner also improved, as it did provide relief from all the tension and overstimulation I was getting and feeling.

thank you for answering! I looked into a Reddit post and many moms said the same, but Google had me convinced that breastfeeding my infant would be like giving him an edible 😭 I don’t intended to sit and smoke smoke smoke, but I do want to get a pen to hit every now and then. If you do not mind me asking, have you seen a decrease in your milk supply?

I also thought about how research has stated that it can cause autism, but there’s research that vaccines can do the same. So I’m like should I really be paranoid about smoking. I think I’ll give it a go, and like you said if it causes him any discomfort then I’ll stop.

Hopefully it’ll improve my relationship as well. I find myself so irritated with my child’s father 🙃 he can touch the door and I’ll get irritated 🤣 (laughing but serious)
