Reflux and baby gaviscon
My two month old has been on infant gaviscon for the last week but it has made them constipated, and feels like we have swapped one digestive issue for another! It works amazingly for the reflux though. Has anyone else had this/ got any tips please?

Unfortunately it's normal, meds that help with reflux thicken the contents of their tummies so often means constipation. It's a case of weighing up whether they're actually constipated and whether it is causing them more distress than the reflux. Once they're on food there are things you can feed them to help get things moving but obviously that's a long way off for you still.
Hi, I have a 8 month old and she was on gaviscon untill she was 3 1/2 months. Unfortunately you have to ride the wave of it! To help the constipation we did loads of massage, bicycle legs and we would give pre-made formula for a day and that would get things moving. Also instead of doing a full packet of gaviscon, we did half as it still helped the reflux and made her constipation a little better. Good luck x
Wow I remember this so clearly and he was in so much pain from being constipated from the gaviscon but it really helped his silent reflux.
We found for us that doing a gaviscon in every other bottle or one in the evening and one in the morning worked for us. It didn’t make him constipated and still helped with the reflux. It’s trial and error unfortunately but you’ll find what works for you x
I have this exact same problem! My doctor has prescribed some laxatives for my little one, he was constipated very quickly after starting the gaviscon. The laxatives are definitely helping so it might be worth considering. Also my health visitor said the pre-made formula bottles are apparently good for aiding digestion. I didn’t try this though because it would have meant using two different formulas. Good luck though, it’s not easy! X
yes same here, we had one amazing day where she was a new baby and now has been crying with tummy pains since! How long did the laxatives take to kick in? I’m hoping something like that would help good for us too then x
Same here. I was gutted because he was like a new baby, and then the constipation started 😩 The laxatives took a few days to kick in but he is pooing a lot easier now thankfully 🙏🏻
