We did the taking Cara babies method which is basically Ferber. You can adapt it a bit and see what works for you and baby. After doing all this, we still had some issues and we realized we had to let our baby learn to fall asleep initially on his own as well as opposed to letting him fall asleep in our arms and then placing him down. He’d wake up very upset and confused otherwise

We never did any formal sleep training. We worked on a balanced daily schedule, strong routines, adequate feedings and the rest sorta fell into place. I think a lot of it starts with a good schedule. At 8 months we were on 2 naps and were on a rough 3/3.25/3.5 schedule (though every baby is different).

We did a modified Ferber method/Taking Cara Babies. You need to set yourself up for success at night by having a consistent schedule during the day. I focused on wake windows. I think at 8 months their wake windows are about 2-3 hours, so making sure they go down for a nap/bed after being awake for that amount of time. It sounds weird but if they get enough daytime sleep, they will sleep better at night

I don't
Follow wake windows, wear them out, wind them down before bedtime

The book Precious Little Sleep has some great advice for gentle and not-so-gentle methods so you can pick the one that works for you.
