St Richard’s Hospital

Just found out I’m pregnant and one of the hospitals in our catchment is St Richard’s in Chichester. What have peoples experiences been with this hospital? When I had my first I did all the digging into CQC reports and maternity services are rated awful around here ☹️.
Also has anyone also had experience with their home birth team?
Trying to do as much information gathering as it’s all stressing me out and all I’ve heard is negative things about maternity services at the moment ☹️

I’m under St Richard’s, not sure on their home birth team in particular but am planning a home birth for end of January. I had a positive experience in 2022 giving birth in the hospital though

I’ve had two births at St Richard’s, December 2023 and May 2025. My first birth experience was really bad, I had to get to counselling etc for it. I vowed I wouldn’t go back, but I had no choice for my 2nd. My 2nd birth experience was amazing!

My first birth was preterm (born at 36+2), now I’m not sure if that’s why it was bad but I felt severely neglected and there was a lot of stuff that happened that could have been avoided. Me and my little girl were crash carted at birth, I was left on the bed covered in blood and the cleaner had to help me out of stirrups and get sorted out, they wrote down false information about my little girl that meant she had to go up to NICU but didn’t actually need to go there. I was also neglected on the Tangmere ward after birth, no obs taken for me or baby for the 5 days we were in, but obs submitted in the notes? I put a huge complaint into PALS when I left.

My 2nd birth experience, absolutely amazing. Born at 38, they were completely

Understanding of my previous experience and worries. They went above and beyond for me, to the point that after I gave birth I turned to the midwife and said I would happily come back here again. When I spoke to a senior midwife she said since my first birth they had had a huge staff turnover and a lot of re training happened. I have no labour notes for my first.. no one can locate them anywhere? But sooo many for my second.

Everyone I know has a variety of different experiences but overall, st Richard’s would be my choice between there, Worthing and QA (these were my choices) x

I had a c-section at St Richard’s in September and it was a really positive experience. I found the midwife’s and doctors really helpful and friendly ☺️

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Would you bring 9 week old to a family party of 35+ people?

These are also people who will want to pass the baby around and get a turn to hold him. He just got his 2 month shots two days ago

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Scan needed at 33 weeks

Hi ladies! I just had a midwife appointment (I am 33+5)..the midwife was different to my usual midwife. She's requested I have a scan within 72 hours as she said baby is measuring a little small, however, she did say that it's likely nothing to worry about and it's probably just her measuring me a bit different to my usual midwife. Has anyone else had this? Am a bit worried although babys heartbeat and movements are completely fine.

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient 😂🥲
