Some Financial advice needed

I am going on maternity leave in just over a week and I’m starting to become very anxious about how my husband and I are going to make my maternity pay work for us.

I will be getting SMP which has been calculated to £130 a week. This money won’t even cover what I contribute to our rent alone before even paying my own personal bills.

My husband does pay majority of our bills but we need my contribution to be able to make those bills every month.

Any suggestions of things I can do to make extra money during maternity leave or things I can apply for would be super helpful.

The anxiety around this has started to become extremely overwhelming for me 😪

If you are thinking you will need to take on debt, my suggestion would be to find a 0% interest credit card for a long period. I found one for 20 months interest free and paid for things on that. Took a year off and paid it off gradually once I went back to work before the free interest period was up.
If you’re going to do it, you need to apply before you’re on reduced income.

And you may be able to apply for universal credit depending on what your husband earns. And once baby arrives, you may also be able to get child benefit.
With respect of benefits, you can speak to citizens advice for guidance on what you’re eligible for.
