How to dress baby

So I’ve always gone off add an extra layer to whatever you have on. My house is at a constant 19.5-20 degrees. My mum and sister have had a huge go at me for not putting a cardigan on my son in the house. I put him in a vest, sleep suit and a blanket. The midwife said this is enough when she visited but they are adamant I’m doing it wrong. Can anyone offer advice? I’m terrified that I’m not doing anything right. He feels a good temp when i touch his chest and back. He’s pretty content but with two people really on at me it’s made me doubt myself

My house is pretty much the same as yours and I am doing everything you are. Babies only need one layer extra than us so if you're comfortable in a tshirt then he just needs an extra layer.

My baby girl is always in a vest and sleepsuit/top and trousers at home. I put a blanket over her for naps but its a vented one. I pop her in a long sleeved vest rather than short sleeved if its super cold outside but that's it.

The midwives constantly echo that what I'm doing is right so don't doubt yourself. If your little one is cold, he will tell you but an overheated baby can't- they are just very sleepy. You're doing a great job - try and block out the unwanted, unsolicited advice! 🤍 x

I dress mine the same! Or today i did a long sleeve vest and a Cardi with some knitted trousers and socks and abandoned the blanket. I have noticed people constantly naturally want to wrap him up more/turn the heating up higher but just stick with what you know is right!

If he feels like a good temp when touching chest and neck than it’s fine. Go off his cues too whether he’s unsettled or not. My first born runs hot and was ok with less layers. My newborn now is the opposite she loves to wear a lot! So every baby is different and everyone will have opinions. My mum and mil always wanna add layers too but I say no

If your midwife says it’s fine then I’m sure it’s fine, they’re the experts after all. It can be difficult when family try to tell you how to do things, even when they mean well! I’m sure you’re doing a great job :)!
